Youth Movement is a University of Oregon field day event inspired by Nike N7, created to empower Native American youth through the power of sports. The 5th annual Youth Movement is a nonprofit youth field day tournament for Native American youth. The all-day event hosts tribes and schools from across the state, with 11 tribes and schools and nearly 170 participants in attendance last year. Youth M

Meet Caitlyn! Caitlyn (she/her) is an operations coordinator. She’s majoring in psychology, her favorite place to eat in Eugene is Cheba Hut, and her favorite place to study on campus is shockingly the EMU fishbowl because she works at starbucks in the EMU!

“I chose to be a part of the Native Youth movement because I want to be a part of something bigger than myself and help create a really fun day for Native youth! I love kids and YM was the perfect opportunity for me to work with kids and also an awesome team of people!”

Meet Charis! Charis (she/her) is an operations coordinator. She’s majoring in planning, public policy, and management. Her favorite place to study on campus is Lillis- you can find her in the Peet’s Coffee shop getting a refill of coffee or at one of the tables on the top floor. Her favorite thing to do in Eugene is hike Spencer’s Butte for gorgeous views of the city, and a fun fact about her is that she loves line dancing!

Meet Emma! Emma (she/her) is our design director. She is majoring in art and minoring in ethnic studies. Her favorite place to eat in Eugene is Hey Neighbor Pizza or Ta Ra Rin, her favorite place to study is usually at Tailored coffee right off campus or at the EMU on campus, and her best memory at UO is when it snowed her freshman year and she spent all day outside with her friends.

“I chose to be a part of the Native Youth Movement because I have passions in creating art and combining important human justice issues into projects as a means of communication towards others. I have also always loved working with kids and am always trying to find ways to continue doing so. I am here to share my skills and learn from the team and youth we interact with!”

Meet Nellie! Nellie (she/they) is a communication coordinator. Nellie is Oglala Lakota and Inupiaq, and an enrolled member of the Native village of Utqiagvik. She’s majoring in psychology and Native American studies. Her favorite place to eat in Eugene is Chao Pra Ya, her favorite place to study is at the MCC in the EMU, and a random fact about her is that she loves to make drinks like boba, lemonades, and espresso!

“I chose to be a part of the Native Youth Movement because of my passion for working for youth. I think it’s important to create safe spaces where Native children are validated and uplifted, especially in places of academia.”

Meet Danny! Danny (he/him) is a communication coordinator. He’s majoring in advertising and minoring in sports business. His favorite memory was watching Justin Herbert and the football team win the Rose Bowl a few years ago, his favorite place to eat in Eugene is the Original Pancake House, and a fun fact about him is that he has over 80 pairs of sneakers and almost 20 pairs of sunglasses since he loves to collect!
