F/V Cynthia C.²

June 5, 2009 LAUNCH DAY!!

We moved the Cynthia C., tower and pulpit to the Fairhaven Shipyard Companies after Memorial Day 2009 for reassembly and launch. It took a couple of days to finish hydraulic connections, wiring and cabling to the tower but the boat was ready for launch by the 1st weekend in June. Alexandra, now 5, was so excited about the launch of the new boat she painted a picture and gave it to me the day of the launch.

The morning of June 6, we met Tod, Lilly and Dawn Graham Velsor at the boat at 8:30 am. I was pretty much a nervous wreck and had not slept much the night before going over everything on the launch checklist in my mind. Yes, I had put the plug in the boat the day before.

About 9:00 the slings of the Travel Lift were placed under the boat and she was lifted up and began rolling toward water. Once over the water, her descent was suspended so Cindy, her namesake, could properly Christen the Cynthia C. by breaking a bottle of champagne on her bow. At 9:19 am, the bottom of the Cynthia C. made her first contact with water.

Tod and I inspected for leaks and other issues before the boat was fully floated and the slings were removed. With no issues found, the boat was fully floated.

We fired up the engine and let it warm up while inspecting for any leaks. We then backed the boat away from the dock and moved her over to a slip to rig the boat and finishing the installation of the electronics before moving the boat to her slip in Sandwich.

A key factor in increased fuel consumption is drag. What can cause drag? A fouled propeller. Check out this great article that breaks down fuel consumption, as well as how drag affects your vessels performance. As pictured in the article, Propspeed should be an essential part of your boat's maintenance in order to reduce drag and improve fuel economy. Read more below 👇
