22 years ago, I stepped out of JFK airport and into the absolute unknown.
I didn't speak English.
I remember standing in front of the immigration officer while he spoke to me, and I had absolutely no idea what he was saying 😉
So, I just looked at him and smiled. He felt the energy, smiled back, and let me in 🇱🇷
There is a wild, disorienting vulnerability in not understanding a single thing happening around you (I felt that exact same feeling walking through Costa Rica last year 🙊).
But it teaches you something profound: when you don't have the words, you learn to read the energy.
A few months into living in the States, I met a woman who told me she had been here for 7 years.
I remember looking at her in awe, thinking: "How will I survive 7 years? Maybe I'll at least speak decent English by then."😂
Here I am. 22 years later.
I learned the language.
I built an entire life.
I climbed the corporate ladder.
I navigated marriage, the deep transition of separation, and widowhood.
I have been broken open and rebuilt from the ground up more times than I can count.
