Life has been hectic lately but I will be at my clubs show next weekend. Lots of cool stuff to check out and see. Usually I make something cool to get people to come over to my table but the thing I’m working on is not going to be done in time. Previously I’ve made knives from movies, the push knife from Sniper with Tom Baringer, a functional Negan bat from walking dead, the Beta Bowies from walking dead a few swords And several old western movie Bowies. This year I guess I will have to rely on my charm and charisma, stop laughing as far as I’m concerned I’m delightful.

Classic elegant and sharp. Lighting is tough today so I zoomed in for the pattern. Super sharp as it should be.

Legend has it that James Black in arkansas created the Bowie knife making improvements from Jim Bowies design which was essentially a kitchen knife. James later created the Arkansas toothpick. This is my interpretation of that knife. 5160 steel forged by hand with a maple handle. This knife is intended to accompany my flintlock I made last year. I browned the blade just as I did the barrel on the flintlock. I treated the handle exactly the same as I did the stock minute the incise carving. The sheath is vegetable tanned leather with a fur cover. If I had been a hunter hundreds of years ago this is what I think I would have had. But hey I’m not a historian so it’s probably not historically accurate but it’s cool and functional and that’s the important part.

Someone asked do you still make knives because I don’t post much. Yes I still make them I just thought nobody really paid attention. But I will try post more often. Here is a beautiful new kitchen knife in cpm154 I used a radiuses platter to get a hollow grind which makes an incredibly sharp yet strong knife. Walnut wood handles and hunter green liners. I put 6 coats of true oil on the handle and just finished waxing in bees wax. There’s still a bit of wax to buff off but I’m tired that sounds like a task for tomorrow.

Skinner and boning knife set I finished the knives a few years ago but never made a sheath. I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go with it being two knives so like most artists I just let it sit for a few years until properly inspired. Geez that sounds cheesy but I don’t know how else to explain it. Both knives are cpm154 which is one of the best stainless steels for knives. Cryogenically treated so they will be outstanding performers. Copper bolsters and hardware and African Blackwood handles. One of my favorite woods to use so pretty. The sheath has some fun tooling with a cowboy on a horse done by a swivel knife and an exacto knife then some tooling to make the image stand out a bit all on vegetable tanned leather.

Carving a handle for the Arkansas toothpick knife that will accompany the flintlock rifle. It all started as a block of maple the same as the stock on the rifle. I will do the same treatment as I did on the rifle to match it. Coming along just a few more grits of sanding and then the magic happens to pop the grains.

Sometimes you just have to test yourself. This one required a lot of knife making skills as well as many new skills to add to the repertoire. Hopefully I can take it to the range soon and see how she runs.

The last customer requested knife I’m making. Damascus hunter with copper guard and file work on spine. Leather sheath to come once they let me know what they want. And if they are right or left handed.

Pretty stainless kitchen knife in cpm154 with Blackwood handles red g10 liners and dozen layers of true oil on the handle. I kinda forgot to take pics so they don’t do the knife justice it’s a beautiful knife and the handle looks like it’s ten miles deep. This is when utility and beauty meet. Like a Lamborghini pickup truck.
