$26M plan bringing Genesee County’s first state park to Chevy Commons

Until today, Genesee County was the only county in the state to not have a State Park. The announcement today to turn Chevy Commons into a State Park, and potentially invest over $26 million into the heart of Flint, is truly transformative and further proves that good things are happening in Flint! Stay tuned for more information on the project, and how you can provide input on what to name our new State Park!

[07/27/20]   Happy summer! As the COVID-19 crisis continues, please remember to practice social distancing in Flint parks. If you do use playground equipment or other amenities, remember to bring hand sanitizer or wash your hands. Have fun and stay healthy!

#TBT of two young cyclists riding the trails at Kearsley Park.

Under Michigan's Stay at Home, Stay Safe order we must all do what we can to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

This executive order allows "outdoor activity, including walking, hiking, running, cycling, or any other recreational activity consistent with remaining at least six feet from people from outside the individual’s household."

For a summary of this order please visit michigan.gov/coronavirus

If you would like fun alternatives to using playground equipment please check out this list compiled earlier this week:

🌳Challenge your friends to a race
🌳Have a scavenger hunt
🌳Play Simon Says
🌳Have a jump rope or hula hoop competition
🌳Get creative with sidewalk chalk

[04/06/20]   For the health of everyone in Flint, we kindly request that playground equipment not be used until the health crisis has passed. However, our walking paths are still open! Some ideas of activities that can be done six feet apart from others are:

🌳Challenge your friends to a race
🌳Have a scavenger hunt
🌳Play Simon Says
🌳Have a jump rope or hula hoop competition
🌳Get creative with sidewalk chalk

What other ideas do you have to get outside and have fun?

City Hall may be closed to the public, but the parks are still open! Check out this great advice from our partners at Keep Genesee County Beautiful. While the virus may survive for extended periods of time on some surfaces, such as playground equipment, taking a stroll and looking for signs of spring can be a great way to get outside during this time!

Let’s Keep Genesee County Beautiful!!

As we get used to “social distancing” and implement precautionary measures to slow the spread of COVID-19, it’s still a great time to get outdoors - individually, or in small groups! How about spending some of this time beautifying by picking up trash! We here at Keep Genesee County Beautiful are still at work and happy to provide supplies. The office is closed to walk-ins, but if you call first, we will gather trash bags and gloves and deliver them to your car when you arrive.

To reach us call: 810-767-9696
Our office hours are: Monday – Friday, 8a – 5p
