The Journey To 90 - Stronger Than Yesterday

The Journey To 90 - Stronger Than Yesterday Stronger Than Yesterday.

In July, I planted my flag in the ground and declared,
“This is where yesterday ends and right now begins.”

The Journey To 90 was born — a commitment to intentional living, obedience, discipline, humility, and truth.

While recovering from the TKR earlier this year, I targeted the Skittles Waco Wild West 100 as my bucket list ride of the year. But I was not sure how far I might be able to go. Recovery and rebuilding was new ground for me.

Sunday, the Biking Viking will take 62 miles out of the Wild West 100. I can hardly wait! God gave me a plan, I worked it and I am clear, calm, capable!

Today - a 45 mile Labor Day Romp. A beautiful morning to ride indeed. I romped to Salado, close enough to see Stillhouse Hollow Lake before looping back home.

You never know what you might see on the road and I do keep a look out for interesting things. I found a few treasures along the way today. Took a few pics of each.

The stories are unknown, but I recognize that the evidence is left for all to see.

Someone drove that car.
Someone worked that tractor.
Someone cut the wood, painted those words and planted that sign where travelers would see it.

As we say in the South “bless their hearts”.

This week my focus narrows to prep for next weekend…The Skittles Waco Wild West 100. This is one ride that I had hoped and prayed I would be able to participate in.

I am ready…Stronger Than Yesterday!

Another Saturday, another great morning on the road. The TDF 53 mile Saturday Gallop Loop. I explored a couple of different county roads. One section very much reminded me of a road my pals and I rode our bikes on in my young teen years.

Legs spinning, bike moving - my goodness it is a beautiful feeling. Nothing like moving through time over an open road! And this ride? Well it was one day past my birthday. God is good and I am blessed to be able to do this. The Journey continues…

The knee/leg felt so great all day…I just had to get outside and ride after work. Indoor cycling would not do. So I hit the road and lit it up - sure felt good to let the horses run!

Every week since the TKR just gets better.

Keep going. Never give up. Believe in tomorrow…and make it Stronger Than Yesterday!

Today Chad and I met in Waco for a Waco Ironman Recon Ride. He will be riding this route in October in the Waco Ironman. About half of it is included in the Wild West 100 that I will be riding in a couple of weeks.

I cannot really put into words how great it is to ride with my son. I wish it could be more often. My goodness he can fly! It is a joy for me to ride along and flash back to my little boy riding with me on his training wheel bike - then a regular bike, and later riding trails with me on a mountain bike.

We finished up this morning before the asphalt melted. I am looking forward to riding in cooler weather eventually - but who in Texas isn’t ready for a real cold front to drop in?

Recon done. The more you know…the better you go. There will be a reward in these events for the time put in today. But today, for Chad and me, the greatest is banking more miles and memories!

Two months and 3 events left before I get the right TKR. Then I will start all over looking to get that first mile in.

The Journey Continues…

People often ask me “where do I start?”

I write about how are bodies are under attack from an unseen enemy. The news is beginning to cover more and more about this.

Take a look at these two images. The Castle is your body. You can build a filter wall outside to prevent toxins, pfa’s, endocrine disrupters, etc from getting in - or - you can “fight them” from them inside The Castle.

I believe the first step is to reduce the invasion. Stop the overwhelming of your body’s defenses - immune system, liver, kidneys and all. Build the filter fence - stay disciplined and determined - free your future. Give your body the best chance TO WIN each day.

This is living Stronger Than Yesterday!

TDF 59 — B***y Kicker Deluxe 🚴‍♂️🔥

When I designed this route, I knew it would want to flex its hilly biceps and win the day. I studied it, knew where the climbing challenges were, the rollers, and descents. I started out with one thought in mind - Patience is Strength.

There were plenty of opportunities to blast off and let the horses run. I felt them. Oh yes I wanted them. But I let them pass...because I knew somewhere in those last 15 miles there was going to be a toll booth. I needed to keep some change in my pocket to pay the toll.

Turns out the toll collector was the Texas heat. ☀️
By the final hour, all I wanted was a shade tree and a breeze! 🌳

59 miles. 2,651 feet of climbing. Nearly four hours moving.

I did not burn matches just to watch them burn. I paced, controlled the route, then finished sweaty and
hot but in fine form.

Sometimes strength isn’t how hard you can go.
Sometimes strength is knowing when not to.

PATIENCE IS STRENGTH

There comes a point when strength no longer needs to announce itself.

You’ve been there.
You’ve done that.
You’ve fought enough battles to know that not every challenge requires an immediate response.

Sometimes the strongest move is to wait. Watch. Listen.

Let the situation reveal itself.

Experience teaches that being first to move isn’t nearly as important as knowing “when” to move.

What is your next move?

Take your time. I promise you, the seasoned warrior already has it covered. He was three steps ahead before the game even started. Not because he moves faster. Because he has learned to see farther.

Become the Warrior. Lengthen your vision. Be prepared. Timing is everything. And Patience is Strength!

This morning I had not recovered fully from the ride yesterday. This time of year the heat drains a little power out of a person. So the plan had to change. Instead of the 7:00 am TDF 61 Mix, I had to switch to another route. I did my thing to get ready: fuel up - fire up. Then I created a route that I named TDF 30 The Loop of Joy and launched near 11:00 am.

I did not ride to push myself to a new record pace, cadence or mph. No training session involved. Today was about “just enjoying”.

Sure I wanted to feel the wind on my skin and the sun on my face. I love movement. But what I really wanted was to slow down and be present in the beautiful country I rode through. To take it all in and soak up the beauty. To experience gratitude in these moments. I took more pictures and videos than any ride to date.

Once I got home, I knew that my plan had succeeded. I felt immersed in joy!

The 61 Mix with about 3K of climbing will still be there next weekend. I will be there too…
