I love how this is spelled out especially the part "she didn't want to be my mother."

In relationships, we can easily take in different roles which can affect the dynamics.

If we talk, if we listen, if we understand (the best we can) and we work together, we will learn a lot about each other, about ourselves and about the relationship especially the daily goals T-O-G-E-T-H-E-R

Taking on roles such as a parent figure, a child figure, a friend figure, an employee figure, an employer figure, a therapist figure, a spiritual leader figure, a healer/physician figure...takes away and will disrupt the relationship.

Be each other's partner and friend will be the most helpful. And having supportive people in your lives, outside of your relationship, will benefit each of you plus the relationship!

You will grow together without trying to figure out what hat to wear when talking with you significant other.
