⚡ Why Carbs Matter:

For years, we have been told carbs are the devil and make us fat. But the truth is, carbs are a crucial part of a healthy, balanced diet and they don't lead to weight gain without overconsumption. So, let's dive deeper and talk about it! Carbohydrates are one of the three main macronutrients, alongside proteins and fats. They are the body's most abundant source of ENERGY! That’s right you NEED carbs! You’ll find them not only in grains but fruits, vegetables, and legumes. This myth likely comes from the misunderstanding that carbs are "fattening." But in reality, eating too many calories overall, not just carbs, leads to weight gain. Carbs, like all foods, should be consumed in moderation based on your activity level and energy needs. When consumed in a balanced diet, alongside fats and protein, carbs can help you manage your weight, not increase it! The key is to focus on complex carbs, such as whole grains, beans and veggies over simple carbs like candy and soda. Complex carbs digest more slowly, keeping you fuller longer and providing sustained energy throughout the day. On the other hand, simple carbs can spike blood sugar levels, leading to energy crashes and making us more tired. Carbs are essential for muscle repair, brain function, and physical performance. Without them, your body doesn't have the energy it needs to perform at its best. So, don’t let someone tell you the only way to go is Keto or low carb. It’s all about balance and moderation, not avoidance.

I have gone back and forth about what I wanted to share, how I wanted to reintroduce myself and grow from here. While I have promised to show the good and ugly of my wellness journey, I haven’t been doing that much lately. Part one of my story will start with my health. It’s been about two years since I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and what a wild ride it has been. Two years ago I was training for a half marathon, lifting the heaviest I ever had and I had a business that was flourishing and growing. Unfortunately, that came to a quick halt when I was told I had to stop working out because my heart rate and body couldn’t take it at that time. For over a year I went through so many medication changes, hormones going up and down, scares because of suspicious nodules and a weakened immune system. I was hospitalized twice due to GI issues, I have had multiple procedures and tests. For two years I haven’t been healthier for longer than two weeks at a time and things that should be a little bug take me completely down. With all of this came depression, anxiety, gi issues, high heart rates, low heart rates, confusion, weight gain, weight loss and many other symptoms. It has made school hard, hard to work, hard to do things around the house. I am so thankful for Kyle because has carried so many things for our family on his own. I am also thankful for Kayden, he always checks on me and wants to take care of me in any way he can. In August I had radioactive iodine treatment to begin the journey of killing my thyroid. I have since had to switch endocrinologist and my new one is honestly awful. I told her four weeks ago my hormones were high, she told me it was probably something else, I had to convince her to do lab work. Which came back high, so I was put back on the medication for graves, then last week four weeks later I did follow up labs. I hadn’t been feeling great again feeling very tired and weak. Lab work showed low hormones, which is promising, meaning hopefully my thyroid is dead. I have been started on hormone replacement meds. Im hoping and praying this is the end of an era and the beginning of another. I hope to be back 100% on my game soon!
