🥋 Distract high, chop low. Damage the leg, go back high.
🥋 For anyone who's never had their outer thigh blasted with a leg kick before (especially the area just above the knee), it's a special kind of pain that really grabs your attention 😉

The name "full force" in Full Force Self-Defense & Fitness simply refers to my underlying life philosophy of whatever you go after in life, whether it be in fitness, combat, or anything else, you go at it with everything you've got! Don't let anyone hold you back, and just as importantly, don't hold yourself back. I’ve told people countless times in self-defense seminars that if they are confronte
🥊A little off center, a little off balance, but still connected with enough power to knock some stuffing out.
🥊In fighting, the most effective strike is the one that actually lands. Pretty or sloppy, it doesn't matter. People have been knocked out by both before, with the commonality being that both found their mark.
🥊Also, bagwork is not an indicator of fighting ability; it just feels really good not to hold back sometimes and see what happens.
Touch and go 🥊🥋
⚡️ Self-Defense Striking ⚡️
In a self-defense situation, the goal isn’t to score points or look technical—it’s to end the threat FAST. That means:
✅ Direct, linear strikes – No wasted movement, just efficiency.
✅ Low kicks – Targeting the groin, knees, and shins for maximum damage, while maintaining good balance.
✅ Eye, throat, and nose attacks – Finger jabs, palm strikes, throat strikes, and strikes to the nose for disrupting vision & breathing.
✅ High & low-level combinations – A groin kick immediately followed by a punch to the face or vice versa. Attacking both levels quickly can make your attacks hard to read.
✅ Elbows & knees – Close-quarters weapons when things get tight.

"I may not know how to box, but I know how to punch." Andy Hug
🥊 I have always loved this quote by one of my favorite kickboxers of all time. He was from a karate background, much like myself, and even though he was never formally trained in boxing, his striking with both kicks and punches knocked plenty of people out.
🥊 Since injuring my knee, I've been having to focus almost entirely on punching for the last couple of months with any bag work or shadowboxing that I do.
🥊 Whenever I look back and critique my own technique, I know that I'm certainly no boxer, but I do know how to punch. I also know that having the raw essentials of speed, balance, and power can make any punch effective if it lands, regardless of what "style" it comes from.
🥊 So, here's to some honest self-reflection in all that we do. Let us be proud of our strengths, aware of our weaknesses, and always striving for progress over perfection.
🥊There are many different ways/variations to throwing the check hook. This is just one simple way.
🥊Ultimately, the best check hook or any punch for that matter, is the one that you can land and make work for you.
🥊Special shoutout to trainer extraordinaire, Travis Goode, for teaching me this gem a long time ago! It quickly became my favorite punch 👊
🥊 This is the first video of two different series called "Striking Skills" & "Combat Conditioning" that I'm starting to put together. "Striking Skills" will break down various techniques from karate, kickboxing, and reality-based self-defense. More to come on "Combat Conditioning" later.
🥊 Today's video is on using high and low attacks to set up a spinning back kick to the head. A further description and breakdown of the combo can be found in the video.
🥊 Each episode of "Striking Skills" features simple explanations and demonstrations of techniques and combinations, categorized into basic, intermediate, and advanced levels.
🥊 Whether you're a beginner looking to learn the fundamentals or an experienced martial artist aiming to refine your skills and boost your fitness, the "Striking Skills" & "Combat Conditioning" series will hopefully offer valuable insights and practical guidance for everyone.

🥋 Another successful Defend & Donate Self-Defense Seminar in the books! This past weekend, I had the honor of teaching an amazing group of people at Morton Memorial UMC. We covered the basics of self-defense and had excellent participation. I would say that the only thing that outmatched this group's intensity and engagement was their generosity!
🥋 Together, we raised $525 for Blue Monarch to help them continue the life changing work that they do for women and their children "who are overcoming addiction, abuse, and economic hardship to transform in mind, body, and spirit." They are an incredible organization and one that all the participants felt strongly about supporting!
🥋 Thank you again to everyone! I hope you never have to use anything you learned, but if you do, use it well 👊
