Introducing our newest Boarder: Jan Scott and Beau! Photos to follow (hopefully). Jan and Beau will join the Lower Barn gang.

Good Morning … just a quick introduction. My name is Jan Scott and my handsome new OTTB partner currently in quarantine is Bodacious Beau AKA GreatandGood, recently retired from racing at Charles Town. 5yr gelding locally bred Berryville, Va (well I guess now 6 since 1/1/26 lol) He is my 6th TB and my 5th OTTB. He is my heart horse as I just started riding again a year ago after severe illness and financial problems kept me away from my passion for 6 years. I have a long history in horsemanship started riding at 9 years old and rode as much as possible in my young life even when stationed in Ca, Wa, and Japan. Didn't get to own until my daughters started riding then we all 4 had several horses. I have done mostly hunter/ jumper small shows and a lot of galloping cross country and trails on my OTTBs m, taught beginners and advanced beginners Hunt Seat, AND Recreational Riding and Beginning Horsemanship, which are also what the disciplines I have been certified in by A.RI.A.
I was a founding member of a Boonsboro, MD horse rescue (Homeward Bound ) served as barn manager, volunteer coordinator and V.P. I am never complete without a couple horses so Beau won't be my only. We are both glad to be here!

What a wonderful gathering for our year-ending Fun Farm Saturday attended by Boarders, staff, and friends. We all enjoed a fantastic dinner with very thoughtful and delicious potluck dishes.

The highlight of the evening was a flawless performance by Woodvale’s Drill Team!

If you missed the event and haven’t picked up your Woodvale beanie, stop by the Lounge and get one. Guaranteed to keep you warm all Winter!

If you haven’t jouned in on a Fun Farm Saturday recently, make sure to attend the next one. It’s a great way to meet new friends and reinforce the Woodvale community!

Greetings, Woodvalers. If you were out and about Thursday afternoon, you might have seen us installing an American Kestrel nesting box (red, West side) on a utility pole along the driveway. These small raptors need our help with additional housing to grow their ranks in Frederick County . The American Kestrel only weighs a few ounces and is about the size of a Blue Jay. We have a near-perfect setting for Kestrels as they need large agricultural tracts and lots of small critters like mice and voles for their food source. Check, check.

We learned about The Farmland Raptor Program last year; it’s sponsored by the Maryland Bird Conservation Partnership (MBCP) and is working with the Frederick Bird Club (FBC) to significantly increase nesting sites for Barn Owls (Tyto alba) and American Kestrels (Falco sparverius) throughout Frederick County.

Both species of raptors prefer open or semi-open habitats especially farmland, cultivated fields, fallow fields, and grassland areas.

Keep your eyes peeled for additional nesting boxes and more small raptors around the farm.

What a fantastic gathering last night at our Fun Farm Saturday. Thanks to all the Boarders and Staff that joined in to the Chili Supper potluck! We had chicken, vegan, turkey, Cincinnati, and traditional versions to sample along with tons of condiments, sides, salads and yes, desserts. Our extra special guest speaker, Christine Rossomondo, educated us about the benefits of nutrition and Integrative Nutritional counseling. Great eveni
