Throughout the many centuries of yoga, teachers, practitioners, and monks have known that taking care of your body AND mind is essential. Drawing on the millions of scrolls, texts, books, and oral histories, the mind-body connection has been proven time and again.
The reality is that there is still too much stigma. On a global scale, 1 in 7 people have a mental health condition. Roughly right now 1.7 billion. So next time you are in a gathering, count seven people around you, and acknowledge that one has a mental health condition.
In modern yoga, we follow practices that are shared with mental health care and therapy. Meditation, mindfulness, living in the present moment, self-love, and respecting the world around you. Plus much more!
So, remember mental health stigma ends with you. And one in seven people will thank you for that. And as a yoga instructor, I will keep teaching those lessons to my yogis. Remember, everyone is welcome and can be a yogi!
