Tough, physical, and back-and-forth until the end — Saturday’s match was everything playoff rugby should be. Both teams traded the lead, but when the final whistle blew, your Hogs came up short. That’s not the ending we wanted, but there’s no question the guys left everything on that pitch.
Thank you to Sarasota for making the trip up and giving us exactly the kind of battle we expected. Best of luck the rest of the way. 🤝
A huge thank you to SilverQ for once again hosting the best post-match social in the game 🍻 and to Long Drink for keeping everyone refreshed. 💚
Now we close out the season right — end of year banquet coming up, and then it’s 7s season. Summer tourneys are on the horizon and we’ll have updates soon.
To everyone who came out, cheered us on, and supported this club throughout the season — thank you. It means everything. Stay tuned to our socials and website for what’s next.

Saturday’s a rugby day! 🐗🔥
The Hogs took care of business with a big win to close out the regular season — but the day was about so much more than the scoreboard.
We celebrated Alumni Weekend and honored our Hall of Fame inductees — the legends who built this club and the ones who kept it going. Seeing the brotherhood come together like that never gets old.
We also rocked our colorful, mismatched socks for World Down Syndrome Day. Huge thanks to FSU B for not only a competitive match but for joining us in that celebration. That’s what rugby is about! 🤝
The jersey auction was a success — thank you to everyone who bid and helped keep a piece of Hogs history alive.
And to the crew at SilverQ — thanks for hosting a great post-match social to cap off a memorable day. 🍻
Now we look ahead.
The Hogs are back at Squirrel Ridge Park for a HOME PLAYOFF GAME against Sarasota. Details coming soon — stay locked in. 🐗🏉

Eoin Quinlivan.
When you talk about what it means to be a Gainesville Hog, you’re talking about Eoin. An Original Hog from day one in 2003, he stayed active with this club longer than any other founding member — 15 years on the pitch, all the way through 2018.
Playing Lock, Eoin was part of the foundation that built this club into a winning program. And the hardware speaks for itself:
🏆 D3 Champions: 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017
🏆 South Champions: 2007
Seven D3 titles. That tells you everything you need to know.
But beyond the trophies, Eoin represents something bigger — the kind of loyalty and commitment that a club is built on. He was here at the beginning, and he kept showing up, year after year, season after season.
That’s an Original Hog. 🐗
📅 Join us THIS SATURDAY, March 21st for Alumni Weekend at Squirrel Ridge Park as we celebrate Eoin and all of our Hall of Fame inductees.

Matthew Nakamura.
Matt came to the Hogs in 2014 and made an immediate impact — a charismatic, talented rugger who could play Ho**er or Flanker and do both well. In his first two seasons, he was part of back-to-back D3 Championship teams. That alone would be a career to be proud of.
But Matt was more than a champion. He was one of only three Hogs ever to represent the Caribs Rugby Club in Trinidad. He played for both the Gators () and the Hogs during his rugby career — a bridge between two communities that share a city and a love for the game.
We lost Matt in 2017. And this club felt it.
In his honor, the annual match between the University of Florida and the Gainesville Hogs was named the Nakamura Cup. Every year, both sides take the field not just to compete, but to celebrate the way Matt played — with passion, respect, and camaraderie.
That’s the kind of player he was. That’s the kind of person he was.
📅 One more legend to honor before we celebrate them all at Alumni Weekend — Saturday, March 21st. 🐗

This Saturday, your Gainesville Hogs will be hitting the pitch in colorful—and possibly mismatched—socks in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day. 🧦
Observed annually on March 21 (3/21), World Down Syndrome Day raises global awareness, advocates for rights, and promotes inclusion for people with Down syndrome. The date symbolizes the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome (Trisomy 21).
A common way to show support is by wearing colorful or mismatched socks—their shape resembles chromosomes—sparking conversation and spreading awareness.
If you’re interested in learning more, check out the National Down Syndrome Society and/or the “Spread the Word to End the Word” campaign, which promotes inclusion, respect, and dignity by encouraging people to eliminate the “R-word” from everyday speech.

Christopher ‘Doc’ Mladinich.
Doc didn’t just play rugby — he made it a lifetime commitment. His career started with the Miami Tridents back in 1972, and when the Gainesville Hogs were founded in 2003, Doc was there from day one. He wasn’t just along for the ride either. He laced up and played well into his 70s, suiting up for this club for more than 15 years.
There are matches in Hogs lore that simply wouldn’t have happened without Doc on the field. Games we would’ve forfeited. Moments that only exist because he showed up when it counted.
And if you were bold enough to suggest it was time to retire? Doc had a ready answer for that, and part of it has something to do with having really good insurance. 😄
Five decades. On the rugby pitch. Let that sink in.
📅 Two more legends still to come before Alumni Weekend, Saturday March 21st. Stay tuned. 🐗
