They are part of the jack family, Carangidae, and are the largest of the Trachinotus species. Appearance: Permit have silvery scales, dark dorsal fins, and orange coloring on their chins, fins, or bellies. They have elongated dorsal and a**l fins, a forked tail, and a pronounced hump on their foreheads.
