The club is looking for people who live locally to be on the board and keep the club running. Its brings thousands of dollars into the local community from fishers, birders, water sports, bikers, and people generally loving the Driftless. It has been working for the community since 1966 and needs your support to remain open and available for conservation and tourism to the area.
Please consider checking out the club and joining us for the Board Meeting! IF you can not join in person and help out, please consider making a donation so the board can hire out the needed work to make everyones stay the best. The duties can not rest on the shoulders of a few. Now is time to step up for everyone in some fashion to support the club! Your support makes a huge difference to keeping Trout Central open and thriving! Come in person or send a donation to WFSC, P.O. Box 52, Viroqua WI 54665

Thank you, Travis, and the rest of the Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited crew!
If you are not familiar with Project Healing Waters, it is a program for Veterans that incorporates the majesty of fly fishing with their recovery from military service. I myself am a Disabled Veteran, our Co-Program Lead is also a Veteran and was a volunteer with the program when stationed in Alaska.
So without laboring more words, please bring this topic up at your next membership meeting to see what the interests would be. Program events are at least once a month ranging from learning how to fly tie, building a fly rod, learning about stream ecology, ect, all while the Veteran learns there's so much more in Northern Michigan than a clinical room. Chad Brown at the Adams Chapter is who should be contacted with interest. KEEP IN MIND, the Adams Chapter is doing its due diligence to survey volunteer interest to ensure a beneficial program can be started, your feedback can help with that decision...and to answer the question most inquired about, $$$ the non profit "Project Healing Waters" provides ALL funding, we just need your man/woman power. Thank you for the read.

Serving Michigan's Northeast Lower Michigan Lower Peninsula The name “Headwaters” is very appropriate for the area in which we serve.
The Headwaters Chapter was first founded in 1975, by three avid fly-fishermen from the Ga***rd area: Fred Snook, Dave Smethurst, and James Stock. Since those days in the 1970’s, the Headwaters Chapter has grown to encompass five Northeast Lower Michigan counties: Otsego, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Alpena, and Montmorency. There are more than 630 miles of “Blue Ribbon” trout streams that begin in our

Unique Gift for the special angler in your life!
These custom-made wooden fly boxes were milled from a tree which grew on the Barbless Hook property of the Au Sable River. Standing tall, it likely bore witness to the meeting of George Griffiths and 14 other individuals on July 1959, when they met and agreed to form Trout Unlimited. Only 38 fly boxes were made from the remnants of this tree, which fell on its on accord.
Purchase will include Letter of Provenance.
To obtain one of these boxes, go to https://headwaterstu.org/merchandise/

Saturday Read - Fishing Through the Apocalypse by Matthew L. Miller
What does the future hold for fish and the people who pursue them? Fishing Through the Apocalypse explores that question through a series of fishing stories about the reality of the sport in the 21st century.
Matthew Miller (director of science communications for The Nature Conservancy) explores fishing that might be considered dystopian: joining anglers as they stick their lines into trash-filled urban canals, or visiting farm ponds where you can catch giant, endangered fish for a fee. But it isn’t all bleak. When it comes to fishing, the other part of the story is this: a cadre of anglers is looking to right past wrongs, to return native species, to remove dams, to appreciate the unappreciated fish, to clean our waters and protect public lands.
As an angler and conservationist, Matt removes any and all preconceived notions about what it means to fish in the 21st century in order to see the different visions of the future that exist right here, right now.
Fishing Through the Apocalypse offers one of the widest-ranging looks at fish conservation in the United States, and also includes some of the more unusual adventures ever featured in a fishing book.

Headwaters volunteer’s are at it again! Ten years ago we planted 250 Michigan White Cedar seedlings in 4 foot cages on the Manistee at Deward. Each year Headwaters volunteer’s replace, repair and clean out those 4 foot cages, and when needed, install 6 foot cages. This year we removed five (5) six foot cages from Cedar Trees that have grown to over 10 feet tall and installed another ten (10) six foot cages. If you’d like to volunteer next year or donate for more Michigan White Cedar trees to be planted on our northern Michigan Trout streams, visit us at our web page at headwaterstu.org.

5 Best Towns for Trout Fishing in the U.S. If you're really serious about trout fishing, you need to visit—or move to—one of these places—and get ready to catch trout.

This Saturday August 6th is our Beaver Dam Removal Day. That is if we have enough interest in helping. The plan is to meet at County Road 622 at the East Branch of Black River at 9 am.

Informational public meeting

Good advice!
Water up here is getting warm. Some of our favorite trout water is reaching 78+ degrees. Make sure you take a water temp and abide by safe fishing techniques if you're after trout. Do your part to maintain healthy trout streams in the U.P.
