Germantown Family Aquatics Center Announces Opening

May 30, 2020

We are pleased that our staff is willing to commit to try and navigate the restrictions from the Governor’s Office in order to safely open our Aquatics Center this season. You will notice some changes though as we operate according to requirements and guidelines set forth by the Governor and Board of Health. Please understand that as requirements continuously change we will evaluate operations and make changes accordingly.

1. We will be opening on June 9, 2020 and hope to remain open through mid-August. These dates are flexible based on requirements, guidelines and staff availability.

2. The Aquatic Center will be open seven (7) days a week.

3. The Aquatic Center is supported by tax dollars from German Township and Germantown residents. During these uncertain times, we want to ensure that our residents are able to access the pool, so we have made the decision to only permit admission to city and township residents at this time. We thank those in neighboring communities who have supported the pool in the past and look forward to having them join us in the future.

4. Unfortunately, the current restrictions do not permit us to host swim teams, swim lessons, daycares, pool parties and after hours parties. Also, the zero entry baby pool or locker service is not available at this time. We will continue to evaluate as restrictions are lifted.

5. Due to pool capacity restrictions of 100 people we have extended swim hours in blocked time waves on a first come-first served basis.
A. Wave One 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Free Senior Citizens 62+ Only
B. Wave Two 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. $3.00
C. Wave Three 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. $3.00
D. Wave Four 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. $2.00

Half-hour breaks between each wave will allow time for staff to clean and sanitize. Those who wish to swim again the same day must re-enter during the next wave, pay again and go to the back of the line to ensure admission for new swimmers.

6. Children 11 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult (over 18) at all times.

7. Admission will be sold by daily pass only, first come-first served, until the 100-person capacity is reached for each wave. To avoid the possibility of an annual membership holder being turned away due to capacity limits, we will not be selling membership passes this year. We hope to implement a “no cash” credit/debit card based system for admissions.

8. So that we can phase-in operations, we will not be offering concessions at this time but will evaluate doing so in a couple of weeks. We encourage patrons to bring their own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. We are researching a “no cash” credit/debit card based system for concessions, if we do open the concession stand.

9. Proper distancing protocol measures will be implemented at admission area. Sanitation protocol of chairs, equipment, restrooms, etc. will be followed.

10. Stay tuned to our page for further information.

We look forward to seeing you this summer! Thank you for your patience and support during these challenging times!

Good Evening Gator Families,
It’s with a heavy heart that we have to announce the cancellation of the 2020 Gator Swim season. The SOSL made the decision to cancel the season for multiple reasons. With the closing of multiple league pools and guidelines put into place for youth sports, there was no safe way to run the swim season.

Germantown Aquatic Center

Hello Gator Family,
This is the latest update we have from the Germantown pool about opening. As of right now, we have yet to receive any information from the SOSL as they are waiting to hear what guidelines will be put into place for summer swim.

The board is trying to get as much information out as possible but it’s very limited at this time. Please continue to be patient as we are doing our best with the situation.

On Friday, May 15, Governor Dewine and the CDC put out a set of requirements and guidelines to begin opening public pools. In Germantown, we see the benefits of opening, but need time to process, train employees and add a few of our own guidelines to ensure a safe opening of the Germantown Family Aquatic Center. Staff will be meeting this week to sort through the details and determine if we are able to meet the requirements of opening. We are in contact with other communities in the region to ascertain best practices, though some communities have chosen not to open their pools this summer. We are hopeful that we will be able to open, but stay tuned for more details in the next two weeks. We appreciate your patience! Thank you!

[04/22/20]   Good Evening Gator family,
We hope everyone is doing well!

As the sun comes out and the weather gets nicer, I know many like myself, are ready to be outdoors and in the pool. The board has been working diligently trying to get an idea of how or if our season will run this season. As of now, here is what we know. Our board President has spoken with the SOSL and other teams Boards. The SOSL has not made a decision about the 2020 season as of yet. They have discussed pushing the season back a couple of weeks and/or shortening it. Some of the teams are planning on carrying on their season as normal but there is no guarantees at this point. The Germantown pool has not made a decision if the pool will open this season or not.

Our first priority is our Swimmers and their families. The board is going to reassess the situation during the first week of May. At that time we will be able to give everyone a better update on how we plan to continue.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at anytime!

Our number one priority is the health and safety of our community. With that being said we
currently are not selling pool passes but we will be closely following updates by Governor DeWine and the CDC.
We promise to keep you posted with any updates.

[06/14/19]   A word from Coach Lemke this morning...

This year we will be focusing on 4 main/core values to our program. They are as follows

Positive Encouraging Atmosphere - I know that many feel this rests on the coaches but we believe that it only exists when our parents are a part of this. Any time you see a chance to encourage our athletes please do so and we will take care of the correction. I believe that this has been one of the things that sets our summer swim program apart.

Focus on Improvement - This has been our biggest theme and we establish it, live it, teach it and reward it. We want every swimmer to know that the only focus should be simply getting better. When that has been established, times drop. Once again please help us encourage/foster that piece of our culture.

Fundamentals of a Leader- These aspects have been decided on by the swimmers. Our goal is that everyone can display leadership in some way. This year though conversations swimmers selected that a leader gives best effort, sets the right example, and encourages everyone. We will divide the next 3 weeks and focus on one each week, feel free to open a conversation about what they believe that looks like in and out of the pool. This is another aspect that we will try to establish, live, teach and reward. Next week will be BEST EFFORT week.

Champions Extras - We have already began conversations that champions do/give extra in anything that they do. This can be extra work they do in the pool, extra effort they give. This can even go beyond the pool, champions can do extra by keeping their area/facility clean, by helping to put things away and as always by volunteering to help others. Parents feel free to let me know if you see anyone, at any time that is seemingly going above and beyond what is expected as we want to reward this.

Thank you and Go Gators,

Brian M. Lemke

[06/13/19]   Tonight’s meet (June 13) has been canceled due to the cold temperatures. We will reschedule it for a day that’s bound to be hotter than the face of the sun. 😂
