Don't have tinder, or is it damp? High-density calorie food, like chips, can quickly be lit. You only need 2-3 chips as tinder, so it won't affect your food supply.

A really good to tell direction in the wilderness:
1. Look for moss on a tree trunk. Mosses usually grow as far from sunlight and are usually found on the north side of trees or rocks. If the entire rock is covered, the thickest moss-covered side will point north
2. If the sun is out, put a stick in the ground and mark the end of the shadow of the stick on the ground. Wait for a few minutes; the shadow will move. Now mark the end of the new position of the shadow. The line joining those two points will run east-west.
3. Spider webs appear on the south side of trees.
4. If near a body of water, just remember that animals breed on the west side of the water reserves.
