Raising grandchildren is difficult and challenging, losing thier mom to an overdose is devastating. In 2002 a Program called Subsidized Guardianship existed in North Carolina. It was created to provide financial support for persons who have gained guardianship of a child or children. Many states still utilize this but North Carolina has opted out of this. 623 days ago I lost my daughter to addiction, and work through the various stages of loss and grief. For 16 years I raised her kids, went to court, tolerated CPS frequent visits and worked with guardian litem to help insure the best outcome for her children. For 17 years I watched my daughter change and deteriorate from addiction losing her long before she died.
