Happy National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day!

Having Cerebral Palsy I have been told:

I would never leave the hospital... I’m currently in chapter 29 of my story, with few hospital visits.

I would never go to college… I have 3 degrees and a career I love.

I would never play sports… So far I’ve played hockey, tennis, soccer, rugby, etc., and the list is growing.

Be the writer of your own story, don’t let other peoples’ assumptions define you!

“I'm through accepting limits, 'Cause someone says they're so, Some things I cannot change, But 'til I try, I'll never know!” – Wicked, Defying Gravity 💚

Attended an Adaptive Curling Clinic with Detroit Curling Club yesterday! It is safe to say curling is now on my list of favorite sports to play. Curling can be adapted to meet everyone's needs, whether it's propelling the stone with your arm, using a stick, or attaching a device to a wheelchair. Thank you to the Detroit Curling Club for putting on a great clinic!

🏑🏀 Started out this week with hat tricks and 3 pointers!

Yesterday GVSU Recreation & Wellness hosted a drop in wheelchair basketball and hockey event, with the help of the Michigan State Adaptive Sports Club supplying the necessary equipment. Thank you to both GVSU Recreation & Wellness and the MSU Adaptive Sports Club for a great event! 🏀🏑

Hello I'm Katie Feirer, the Ms. Wheelchair Michigan Ambassador for 2021-2022. Join me as I raise awareness of Ms. Wheelchair Michigan, Inc., while advocating for my platform to raise awareness of adaptive sports and fitness whether in person or virtually.

About Me:

Katie Feirer is a resident of Southwest Michigan with Cerebral Palsy. Katie currently works collegiate recreation with Marketing and Communications. She recently earned her Master’s degree from Central Michigan University in Sport Administration.

Katie credits her passion for collegiate recreation and adaptive sports and fitness to Michigan State University. During her undergrad at MSU, Katie was introduced to adaptive sports and fitness while working with the MSU Recreational Sports and Fitness Services Department. She’ll never forget the feeling when the tennis ball hit her racket for the first time, or when she was gliding across the floor playing wheelchair hockey.
