There’s a lot happening at The Yoga Effect this fall. 🤍

New classes, special workshops, visiting teachers, sound healing, a fall retreat and plenty of opportunities to simply come back to your mat.

The world can feel pretty chaotic. We can’t always change what’s happening around us, but we can make time to pause, breathe, move, connect and practice being present.

Take a look at what’s coming up, check your calendar, and make some space to be with us.

Come move. Come breathe. Come learn. Come rest. Come practice.

💖 This week’s reflection with Sally.

There is so much noise in the world right now.

News. Opinions. Outrage. Fear. Anger. Algorithms constantly asking for our attention, our reaction, our outrage. Sometimes I think one of the most radical things we can do is simply… turn down the volume.

Not because we don’t care, or choose ignorance or pretend difficult things aren’t happening. But because we cannot live in a constant state of reaction and still hear the quieter voice within us.

Yoga reminds us that peace isn’t something we find when the world finally becomes peaceful. I guide my students this way in yoga class; there may be noise outside the windows of the studio during savasana; but our work is to let it wash over us while we remain still and quiet.

Peace is a practice. We can stay informed without being consumed and care deeply without carrying everything. We can bear witness without allowing every piece of noise to enter our nervous system and make a home there.

There is a difference between being engaged with the world and being entangled in it.
So perhaps today, we turn down the volume.
And from that quieter place, we decide where our energy is actually needed.

Because protecting our peace isn’t selfish.

It is how you preserve the capacity to meet the world with clarity, compassion and courage.
The world may be loud. We don’t have to be.

Wishing you a peaceful week ahead 😌

✨ NEW: Progressive Practice ✨

Ready to explore what’s next in your practice?

Our new 75-minute Progressive Practice gives you more time to build, play, and work toward poses that don’t always fit into a traditional flow class.

Each class will progressively build toward a more challenging or pinnacle pose through thoughtful preparation, skill-building, and plenty of options along the way. Expect opportunities to explore inversions, arm balances, backbends, creative transitions, and more . . .always at your own pace.

This isn’t about already being able to do the “advanced” pose. It’s about being curious enough to explore the journey towards it. ❤️

Thursdays at 7:00pm with Sally
Fridays at 9:30am with Stacy
75 minutes

Best for students who already feel comfortable with foundational yoga poses and are ready to play at their edge a little.

More inversion opportunities coming soon in a new class format.

A little Labor Day nostalgia 🤍

Anna here,

Look what Jacqui Ramsey found! An article from when The Yoga Effect first opened its doors in downtown Grayslake back in 2010.

So much has changed since this photo was taken. Different spaces, different chapters, and so many people who have come through our doors. But reading this again reminded me how much has stayed the same.

From the very beginning, the hope was to create a place where people could come exactly as they are, feel better in their bodies, connect with others, and find a little more balance in their lives.

And I can’t share this without mentioning Alexandra Matt Alexandra Matt, pictured with me here. Alexandra has since moved back home to Austria, but she was such a huge part of helping me get The Yoga Effect off the ground and open those doors for the very first time. I’ll always be grateful for that. 🤍

Sixteen years later, we’re still here. Still practicing. Still growing. Still balancing. And fittingly, getting ready for another new chapter.

Feeling especially grateful this Labor Day for every teacher(this couldn’t exist without these amazing women!), student, friend, and member of this community who has been part of The Yoga Effect along the way.

P.S. Please don’t call the cell number in the article. They got it wrong! 😂

A New Chapter for The Yoga Effect 🤍
And Congratulations to Our Neighbors at Something’s Brewing! ☕️

We have some exciting news to share with our community!

The Yoga Effect will be moving . . .but not far! We’re simply moving a few doors down to a new space right here in the same center. And when moving day comes, we’re planning for a seamless transition with no missed classes.

We know change can sometimes feel a little bittersweet. We love our current studio too, and so many memories, friendships, and meaningful moments have been created within these walls.

But we’re genuinely excited about what’s ahead.

Our neighbors at Something’s Brewing are ready to expand their coffee shop, and we had the opportunity to work together with them and the center’s management company to help make that possible. This collaborative effort means a move for us and a chance to create an even more beautiful, peaceful home for The Yoga Effect.

Our new studio will be quieter, and we’re putting a lot of thought and care into making the space feel warm, welcoming, and even better suited to the community and practices we love.

And really, what better place than a yoga studio to practice embracing change? Change is part of life. Sometimes it asks us to let go of something familiar so there can be room for something new to grow.

We don’t have an official move date yet, but construction will be starting, and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

Same community. Same wall mural. A beautiful new space to practice together. 🤍

And we couldn’t be happier to see Something’s Brewing growing right alongside us. Congratulations to our wonderful neighbors on this exciting next chapter! We’ll still be neighbors . . . you’ll just have to get a few extra steps in before grabbing that post-yoga coffee or cookie. 😉☕️🍪

Feel Good, Do Good . . . The Yoga Effect.

💖This week’s reflection with Sally.

Learning to be comfortable with uncertainty.

I used to think I needed to know how things were going to turn out before I could confidently move forward.

I wanted a plan and reassurance.
Maybe even a guarantee that the risk I was taking would be worth it. But life doesn’t really work that way.

Some of the biggest moments in our lives ask us to move forward without knowing.

To say yes before we know exactly what we’re saying yes to. To trust that we will figure it out along the way.

One of my favorite books written by Pema Chödrön, describes beautifully about becoming comfortable with uncertainty; about learning to stay open when we can’t control the outcome. I think this is one of the deeper practices of yoga, too.

We practice being present without needing everything to be resolved. We practice letting go of our attachment to a particular outcome.
And eventually, we begin to understand that uncertainty isn’t necessarily a sign that we’re on the wrong path. Sometimes it’s simply what happens when we’re growing.

There are no guarantees that every risk will work out. There aren’t even guarantees that the path we choose will look anything like we imagined.

But perhaps the goal isn’t certainty.
Perhaps the goal is developing enough trust in ourselves to know: Whatever happens, I will meet it. I can take the next step without knowing the whole path. I can be uncertain and still be brave. I can be afraid and still move forward.

And maybe that’s where real freedom begins.

Is there a time you took a risk and didn’t know the outcome, but it all worked out anyway? Let us know in the comments!
