In 2006, Green Bay Packers rookie linebacker **A.J. Hawk ( #50)** was making his presence felt in the NFL.

Before the glory days of the 1990s, the Green Bay Packers were battling through a tough era of NFC Central football.

This classic 1985 photograph captures Packers defensive linemen **Ezra Johnson ( #90)** and **Mike Cannon ( #58)** alongside their teammates and Detroit Lions opponents.

Back then, the Packers-Lions rivalry was all about hard hits, muddy fields, and old-school football. No fancy celebrations, just two division rivals fighting for bragging rights.

**THE MAN BEHIND CENTER — LYNN DICKEY AND THE PACKERS!**

During the 1985 NFL season, quarterback **Lynn Dickey ( #12)** continued to lead the Green Bay Packers offense under head coach Forrest Gregg.

By 1985, Dickey was a familiar face to Packers fans. Known for his powerful throwing arm, toughness, and ability to deliver the deep ball, he had become one of the franchise's most productive passers.

His finest statistical season came in **1983**, when he led the NFL with 4,458 passing yards and 32 touchdown passes, setting Packers single-season records at the time.

With receivers James Lofton and John Jefferson stretching opposing defenses, Dickey helped make Green Bay's passing attack one of the most exciting in football.

The Packers finished the 1985 season **8–8**, their second consecutive .500 season under Forrest Gregg.

Although championship success remained elusive during those years, Dickey gave Packers fans plenty of memorable moments with his fearless approach and ability to make big plays downfield.

Dickey played for Green Bay from **1976 through 1985**, finishing his Packers career with 21,369 passing yards and 133 touchdown passes.

**EDDIE LEE IVERY — RUNNING WILD AGAINST DETROIT!**

On October 28, 1984, the Green Bay Packers took the field at Lambeau Field against their longtime division rivals, the Detroit Lions, and delivered one of their most convincing victories of the season.

Under head coach Forrest Gregg, the Packers entered the 1984 season hoping to establish a tougher, more physical identity.

**JIM GRABOWSKI — POWER FOOTBALL IN THE LOMBARDI ERA!**

On September 16, 1967, the Green Bay Packers opened their season at Lambeau Field against the Detroit Lions, beginning their pursuit of an unprecedented third consecutive NFL championship.

Grabowski, a former University of Illinois standout, had joined Green Bay as a first-round draft selection in 1966. With the retirement of legendary fullback Jim Taylor following the 1966 season, Grabowski stepped into a much larger role in Vince Lombardi's offense.

Known for his strength, determination, and hard-nosed running style, Grabowski represented the physical brand of football that defined Green Bay during the Lombardi years.

The Packers defeated Detroit **17–17?** No — the season opener ended in a **17–17 tie**, a reminder that even championship teams faced difficult battles.

Green Bay would finish the 1967 regular season with a 9–4–1 record before defeating the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys in the NFL playoffs.

The season ended with a victory over the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl II, giving Lombardi's Packers their third consecutive NFL championship.

**CHESTER MARCOL'S MIRACLE TOUCHDOWN AGAINST THE BEARS!** 🧀💚💛

One of the wildest finishes in Green Bay Packers history happened on September 7, 1980, at Lambeau Field!

With the Packers and Chicago Bears tied 6–6 in overtime, Green Bay kicker **Chester Marcol** lined up for what was supposed to be the game-winning field goal.

But Chicago's Alan Page blocked the kick!

Instead of bouncing away, the football ricocheted right back into Marcol's hands. The Packers kicker took off around the left side and raced into the end zone for an unbelievable game-winning touchdown!

**FINAL SCORE: GREEN BAY PACKERS 12 – CHICAGO BEARS 6**

Even more remarkable? Marcol scored **every single Packers point that afternoon**, kicking field goals of 41 and 46 yards before delivering the unforgettable overtime touchdown.

Under head coach Bart Starr, Green Bay opened the 1980 season with a victory that would become one of the most memorable moments in the storied Packers–Bears rivalry.

Sometimes the greatest plays in football history aren't drawn up in the playbook!

**AARON RODGERS BREAKS DALLAS' HEART — AGAIN!**

On October 8, 2017, the Green Bay Packers traveled to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for another unforgettable showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.

And once again, **Aaron Rodgers ( #12)** delivered when it mattered most.

The Cowboys controlled much of the afternoon, but Green Bay refused to go away.

Trailing **31–28 with just 1:13 remaining**, Rodgers took over at his own 25-yard line with no timeouts.

What followed was another chapter in the legend of No. 12.

Rodgers marched the Packers 75 yards in just nine plays, including a spectacular 18-yard scramble that moved Green Bay deep into Dallas territory.

Then, with only **11 seconds remaining**, Rodgers connected with Davante Adams on a 12-yard touchdown pass to give Green Bay the lead.

**FINAL SCORE: GREEN BAY 35 — DALLAS 31**

Rodgers finished the afternoon with 221 passing yards and three touchdowns, while rookie running back Aaron Jones rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown.

It was another heartbreaking finish for Dallas, coming less than nine months after Rodgers had eliminated the Cowboys from the playoffs with his unforgettable sideline throw to Jared Cook.

**Different game. Same quarterback. Same heartbreaking ending for Dallas.**

For Packers fans, it was another reminder that as long as Aaron Rodgers had the football and time remained on the clock, anything was possible.

🏈 **PACKERS HISTORY | JANUARY 16, 1994**

**REGGIE WHITE, LeROY BUTLER & THE BATTLE IN DALLAS!**

On January 16, 1994, the Green Bay Packers traveled to Texas Stadium to face the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Divisional Playoffs.

It was a matchup between a rising Green Bay team under second-year head coach Mike Holmgren and the defending Super Bowl champions led by Jimmy Johnson.

The 1993 season marked a turning point for Green Bay. The arrival of Reggie White helped transform the defense, while Brett Favre continued developing into one of the NFL's most exciting young quarterbacks.

The Packers had earned their first playoff victory in 11 years the previous week, defeating the Detroit Lions 28–24 on Favre's dramatic 40-yard touchdown pass to Sterling Sharpe with 55 seconds remaining.

But Dallas presented a much tougher challenge.

Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman threw for 302 yards and three touchdowns, while Emmitt Smith rushed for 60 yards and added 52 receiving yards.

Despite Green Bay's efforts, the Cowboys prevailed **27–17**, ending the Packers' season.

**FINAL SCORE: DALLAS 27 — GREEN BAY 17**

Although the loss was disappointing, Green Bay was building something special. Within three years, Favre, White, Butler, and the Packers would bring the Lombardi Trophy home with a victory in Super Bowl ###I.

**The championship hadn't arrived yet, but the foundation was being built.**
