Have you ever tried to convince someone to choose you?

I see this more often than you might think—in women I work with, in teenagers, and if I’m being transparent, I’ve experienced it in my own life too.

We chase. We over-explain. We try harder. We become more accommodating. We ignore our own needs. We think, Maybe if I’m patient enough, loving enough, pretty enough, helpful enough, or understanding enough…they’ll finally choose me.

But underneath all of that is often something much deeper:

Self-worth.

Somewhere along the way, many of us started believing lies about ourselves:

I’m too much.
I’m not enough.
People always leave.
I have to earn love.
If they reject me, something must be wrong with me.

Healing begins when we start challenging those lies.

Your worth was never supposed to be determined by someone else’s ability—or inability—to choose you.

Sometimes two people genuinely care about each other and still aren’t able to meet each other in the same place. Sometimes respecting another person’s decision means accepting what they’re telling you instead of trying to change their mind.

And sometimes respecting yourself means walking away even while your heart wishes things were different.

Healing isn’t learning how to stop caring.
It’s learning that you don’t have to abandon yourself to keep someone else.

That lesson has been part of my own journey, and it’s one I hope the women and teens I work with learn much earlier than I did.

Your worth isn’t up for a vote.

THE CLOSER YOU GET, THE FURTHER THEY RUN.

One of the most confusing parts of avoidant attachment is that someone can genuinely care about you…and still pull away when intimacy grows.

For someone with fearful-avoidant/disorganized attachment, closeness can activate two competing responses:

❤️ “I want connection.”
🚨 “Getting this close feels risky. Protect yourself.”

With dismissive-avoidant patterns, growing vulnerability can also bring discomfort—sometimes leading to emotional distance, shutting down, or a stronger need for independence.

And for the person on the other side? It can feel devastating and incredibly confusing.

Understanding attachment doesn’t excuse hurtful behavior—but it can help us understand what may be happening underneath it.

Watch this and see if it resonates with you…or someone you’ve loved.

Why do I keep showing up?

Well… I received a message the other day from a friend from years ago and they told me how good they have been doing and they said something else.

They told me that they have been watching me and my story, plus posts on social media for a long time and that I’ve inspired them. They said.. “Keep being amazing, we all are WATCHING!”

👆This is why I keep showing up and this is why I share my story and this is why I keep posting even through my own storms!! 🙌❤️

We are called to share the good news!

“Being courageous has very little to do with not being afraid.”

I remember the first time I had to speak in a small closed group of people. The fear was intense and I would turn bright red just saying what was on my heart.

Then I was asked to give my testimony for the first time in front of 100 people and I remember thinking, my knees are going to give out any second!

Several years later and many opportunities for speaking engagements, including being an MC in this picture for my friend’s daughter’s wedding, I still felt the nerves but I keep saying yes.

I say yes because I know how important it is to share our stories of hope, perseverance and resiliency!

I say yes because so many others faced their fears and for that I’m grateful because those stories planted a seed in my life.

God will give you opportunities to face your fears and he will give us courage to do so! 🙌❤️🙏

YOU CAN’T COMPLAIN ABOUT WHAT YOU TOLERATE.

Whew. That one stings a little. 😬

I remember spending YEARS complaining about some of the same behaviors from people in my life. I kept thinking, If they would just change… If they would just understand… If they would just treat me differently…

What I didn’t understand was that I was tolerating the very things I kept complaining about.

We teach people how to treat us—not by controlling them, but by deciding what we will and will not continue to participate in.

That’s where boundaries come in.

For a long time, I thought boundaries were mean. I thought saying no, stepping back, or allowing someone to experience the consequences of their choices meant I wasn’t being loving.

I had it backwards.

Boundaries aren’t about controlling someone else’s behavior. They’re about taking responsibility for your own.

They can sound like:
“I can’t control what you choose to do, but I can decide what I’m willing to stay around.”

That’s not mean.
That’s not selfish.
That’s healthy.

And yes—boundaries are biblical. We can love people deeply without taking responsibility for choices that belong to them.

Sometimes the biggest change in a relationship starts when we stop asking, “How do I get them to change?” and start asking, “Why am I continuing to tolerate what keeps hurting me?”

That question changed a lot for me. ❤️

OK DARREN… LET ME HAVE MY PUMPKIN SPICE.

Apparently my love for pumpkin spice coffee is an “addiction.”

Welllll… considering what I used to drink, I’m feeling pretty good about this life choice.

I can drink a whole pot of pumpkin spice coffee and somehow manage NOT to get a DUI, wreck my life, send questionable texts, or wake up wondering what the heck I did the night before.

So cheers to all my sober pumpkin-spice-loving people.

We’ve had worse habits. I think we’re doing just fine. 😂

PRIDE DOESN’T ALWAYS LOOK LIKE PRIDE.

Sometimes pride sounds like:

“I don’t need anyone.”
“I’m not apologizing first.”
“They’re the problem.”
“I know what I’m doing.”
“I’m not letting them see that they hurt me.”

And sometimes… it looks a whole lot like self-protection.

There’s a BIG difference between being proud and living from pride.

Being proud says, “I worked hard. I’ve grown. I’m grateful for how far I’ve come.” There is absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating your accomplishments.

Pride, however, protects the ego at all costs. It keeps us defensive, makes it harder to admit when we’re wrong, shuts down empathy, resists correction, and can convince us that everyone else needs to change while we never look inward.

And eventually? That can cost us our peace, relationships, mental health, and growth.

Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself. It’s being secure enough to look at yourself honestly. To listen. To apologize. To learn. To repair. To say, “Maybe I have a part in this too.”

That’s where real growth begins.

You can be high-functioning and still hurting.

You can show up. Get things done. Take care of everyone. Smile. Laugh. Work. Serve. Achieve.

And still be struggling underneath it all.

Sometimes “I’m fine” is just another way we learn to survive.

Healing starts when we stop hiding behind the version of ourselves everyone else expects—and let someone safe see what’s really going on.

So here’s the question:

Who knows the real you?

If you’re tired of carrying it all by yourself, let’s talk.

So many relationships don’t fall apart because of one big fight. They slowly disconnect because of the conversations that never happen.

The feelings we swallow.
The needs we’re afraid to express.
The hurt we avoid addressing.
The boundaries we never communicate.

Healthy relationships aren’t about avoiding hard conversations—they’re about learning how to have them with honesty, safety, and respect. 💜

If you’re struggling with communication, codependency, attachment wounds, addiction, or creating healthier relationships, you don’t have to figure it all out alone.
