As we get ready to announce our 26/27 Dancer of the Year, we want to take a moment to celebrate and hear from our current DOTY, .mp3 🎉

How did it feel to voted Dancer of the Year by your peers knowing it says so much about your character?✨
1. Being chosen to be dancer of the year by my peers is an incredible feeling because it’s nice to know that my actions were not only noticed by the staff but also by the people around me.

What has been your favorite memory or opportunity you’ve experienced as DOTY?✨
2. I think my favorite opportunity would be getting to be on your Carolina because I hadn’t really been in front of a camera until that point and it was really cool to see how much went into a broadcast like that.

What has it been like being showcased through things like studio features, outside opportunities and representing Shock this season?✨
3. It’s a really cool experience because it’s allowed me to broaden my knowledge in a lot of different spaces like filming the ad for the pool floats allowed me to see what it’s like to be in a professional shoot in a way that I couldn’t have seen unless I was able to experience it myself. But also teaching and subbing classes has helped me understand my own dancing as well as how to pass what I know onto other people.

What do you think truly makes someone embody “Dancer of the Year,” not just as a dancer, but as a person and teammate?✨
4. I think the qualities of an individual chosen for dancer of the year would be someone who is a team player and is willing to do whatever is needed for the people around them whether its filling in for them if they’re out or just being around to yell and scream and boost their energy.

What will you miss most about Shock and what advice would you give to the nextDancer of the Year?✨
5. I will miss my friends and the family atmosphere at the studio but I will also take the memories that I’ve made with me, but hopefully I will be able to stop in now and again to see everyone😁 some advice I would give to the next DOTY is to enjoy the ride and be as loud as you can because it’s not always your dancing but how you show up that carries you through it.
