I know Don and his wife well. They are of stellar character! Ogle Sensei has a realistic approach to self-defense, but his dojo offers more than defensive technique. Honor, integrity, commitment, self-control come to mind immediately. He is a serious teacher that cares about his students. I don't know of any better martial art instructor in this Upstate area.
This is not just learning to defend yourself. This is a journey of knowledge empowerment and self understanding. One things you will learn here is how to fight off somebody with your mind without even touching them.

The Donjitsu Do Dojo is about understanding one's self through traditional training in martial arts. What is Donjitsu Do? Donjitsu Do is a traditional martial art system designed for self-defense, combat and self-realization.

Similar to many martial art systems the name of its founder is actually part of the system’s name. This is also the case in Donjitsu Do. “Don” being the first name of the founder is at the beginning. Don also means fiery or fierce. “Jitsu” (or jutsu) being the Japanese term for martial art, is frequently used as a suffix for many different open handed and weapon styles of combat literally means “t

New Dojo Bell tower base is finally completed.

As many of you may or may not know, a lightning strike brought down a tree which fell on the dojo bell tower destroying it. I have completely redesigned the tower with a completely different traditional design with a stone base. I have spent the entire month of August working on the stone base for the new tower hand cutting each stone for a tight Japanese style look. For my first time attempting this type of stone work I am happy with how it turned out. I have also added a picture of how the new bell tower will look. Enjoy!

This is a custom Zen bell commissioned by a customer. It is based on a bell owned by a Buddhist family member. It is approximately 20" to the top of hanging ring and around 7" in diameter. It has a 3/4” rope with wooden striker inside. It is finished in a natural rust, then oiled. On the outside it has the Japanese kanji for “The Way” etched into the bell and then paint filled in black. A custom hanger and bolts finished in the same way were also commissioned with it as well.

Let me know if you have an personalized custom bell in mind, I would love to work with you.

For those of you who enjoy the mask I make. Here is one of my latest. It is a Saru (Monkey) mask that would have been worn in kyogen plays which is a classic genre of comic theater. Enjoy!

Shi Shi Odoshi- Traditional Rocking Water Fountain
135.00 + Shipping

This is a Shishi-odoshi I hand crafted myself. What makes this item special is that It is not actually bamboo but made of pvc piping designed to mimic the look and feel of real bamboo. Natural bamboo is beautiful however, unfortunately being wet all of the time will cause them in time to rot away unlike this fountain. Unless told, no one have ever realized that my fountains were not made of real bamboo until they were told. You will have the authentic look of bamboo and the strength and longevity of the plastic pipe. You can find more information about this fountain on my website at Sensei's Garden Art - Donjitsu Do Dojo

If you have any question or would like a specific size, design or color just let me know.

If you want to be part of this class you need to hurry, preregistration is almost over as the class is nearly full. I have had several people say they will get in on the next one which is fine. However, understand that because of my very busy schedule this year this class will probably not come back around for at least a year or more.

This is not just a seminar but a hands on realistic scenario based course that will help you unlock your self defense potential. It will start February the 27th and meet every Saturday morning at 10:00am until 12:00 and last for 6 weeks. You will also have the option to attend all of my scheduled adult classes throughout the duration of the course as I want to give you as much training as possible during this course. Teens are welcome as well as long as the child is mature enough to handle the adult situations and content. The cost of the course is 95.00 per person which is non-refundable and must be prepaid to hold your spot.

For more information on this class or if you are interested in traditional martial arts training please check out or web page at www.donjitsudodojo.com Also feel free to contact me at 895-7773 or send e-mail to [email protected]

I was able to repair and get the dojo sign back on the road.

09/30/2020

The night before Jenn and I took the first vacation we have had in two years high winds took the top of a tree down directly beside the dojo. Luckily, no one was injured as we were just between classes and it missed the dojo. However, it landed directly on the bell house. I have spent the last two days cleaning up the debris and putting a chainsaw to my beloved bell house which I rang each day to wake up the dojo.

On top of that, the night we came home we find that it appears someone has figured out how to shoot corncobs out of what I guess would be a potato gun. They took out my dojo sign and several mailboxes on Milford Church Rd.

I say this not to wine or complain but to say sometimes life takes shots at you and you or things you hold dear are knocked down. We can learn from these experiences and this is the first lesson I teach to each new student as they go through my fall class. In the end it is how we deal with a fall or adversity and get back up stronger to rebuild what was lost that defines us. The decision to let falls define our failures can be much more devastating. I will repair the sign and rebuild the bell house better and more beautiful than it was before.

Life is taking shots at all of us right now.......just get back up!

Hello Everyone,

There is still time to get in on our Women's Self-Defense Course that starts this Saturday the 12th at 10:00am at the Donjitsu Do Dojo. The dojo address will be in the Signature at the bottom.

What to expect.
This is a hands- on full contact class. So what does that mean? You will learn how to fall without injury, strike vital areas of the body, and how to deal with a much larger opponent all while under stress. I will at some point be wearing full body armor and you will be will be placed in scenarios where you will have to physically respond and fight your way free using full contact strikes. However, it does not mean that you have to be young, workout or in fighting shape to be able to complete this class. I will teach you to work with what you have right now. However, if motivates you to want to get in better physical shape then consider this a plus. During the first class I will go over more of what to expect from the class and answer any questions you may have.

Clothing
Please wear something comfortable that you can move in. Yoga, workout pants, or sweat pants and a t-shirt. I do not suggest wearing shorts unless you have leggings on underneath. I would also bring a towel and some water and prepare to work, this is not like other classes.

Parking
Please park facing the tree line as you pull in pass the lanterns. If there is no parking, you may park in the front yard. If there is no parking there please park at the church. As you pull down the driveway, I ask that you do not park on the right side of the drive for for any reason. I do not own that property and you will be asked to move.

Please try to get here several minutes early even if you have prepaid so we can complete paperwork and collect payments (95.00 per person, non-refundable) and so we can start the class on time. Please pay with cash or check as I am not set up for debit.

I look forward to seeing you all on the 12th. If you have any questions prior to the class, I will be happy to answer them.

Hello everyone,
These are some of the new art pieces I have for sale. I handcraft and finish each of these mask myself which makes each mask unique with subtle differences as they are not production pieces. I try never to finish any of my masks the same way twice and as always I try to make the feel old with their own stories. All of these are inspired from original traditional designs. You can find more pictures of each mask, descriptions and the price for each on on my website. Please let me know if you find something you like.

During the covid shutdown I embraced, the social distancing continued my daily workout routine and spent a lot of time working on the dojo garden and my artwork. Over the next little bit I will post some of the dojo garden additions as well as some of my handcrafted Japanese pieces that I have to offer. I am also adding a "SHOP" page to the dojo website to view artworks that I have to offer. Below are a couple of pieces and the link for more information.

Hope you enjoy.

Our Story

What is Donjitsu Do?

Donjitsu Do is a traditional martial art system designed for self-defense, combat, and self-realization. Similar to many Japanese budo systems, the name of its founder is actually part of the system’s name. This is also the case in Donjitsu Do. “Don”, the first name of its founder, is at the beginning. The word "Don" also translates as fiery or fierce in Japanese. “Jitsu” (or jutsu), the Japanese term for technique or art, is frequently used as a suffix for many different open hand and weapon styles of combat. The term “Do” literally means “the way”, as in a way of life that is practical not only for physical benefits but in order to achieve a spiritual or inner development. All of these terms represent a single principle, a way of using the human mind, body, or anything around you as a weapon in armed or unarmed combat. Donjitsu Do is the martial philosophies of one man and when literally translated it means “the art of fiery techniques“.

Donjitsu Do is not a system that can be labeled as specializing in any one particular way of combat (i.e. kicking, receiving, groundwork, striking, etc.) as many can be quickly categorized today. Through history, some systems were no longer needed for use in warfare and thus many fell apart into separate pieces. For some arts, such as Tae Kwon Do, their systems were redesigned and turned into a sport. Others, such as Ninjutsu, fell into disuse all together and nearly forgotten as they were viewed as obsolete. We consider Donjitsu Do a complete martial art with as much philosophy, mental, and physical training aspects of budo. However, it should not to be confused with MMA (mixed martial art) systems. Instead, Donjitsu Do is a return to the ancient beginnings of the combat arts when one had to be versed in all ways of armed and unarmed combat and tactics.

During my years of study, I began to accumulate many different combat techniques that blended well with my way of thinking. From there I began to weave them back together with the Japanese philosophies of the Samurai (Bushido) and the ninja (illusion and stealth) to make Donjitsu Do extremely adaptable and flexible in nature. It is our belief that any system that specializes in only one way of combat actually allows its strength to become the special study of others and thus actually becomes the weakness of the system. The combat philosophy of “nothing should ever be as it seems”, along with flexibility of mind and body are utilized in our system. With a true understanding of how the human mind and body works, coupled with how to utilize deception in combat, one can defeat a much larger opponent.
