Today’s stretch is the Open Book Stretch:
• Lie on your side with knees bent at 90 degrees. Place arms and hands together. Follow your hand with your eyes, as you open your top arm and rotate as far as feels comfortable. Your bottom arm remains on the floor. You should feel a stretch in
your upper back, chest and shoulder.
•Hold for 5 seconds, 15 repetitions

Today we’re introducing a Cat-Camel Stretch:
• Set up is in quadruped position. Hands under shoulders and knees are under hips. Drop head down and contracting abdominal muscles, raise your belly button up towards the ceiling.
• Slowly raise the head up while dropping belly button as low as you can, arching your back.

Today’s stretch is a
HIP FLEXOR STRETCH:
• Kneel then place one foot forward in a 90-degree angle. Place your hands on the front knee for support.
• Keeping the torso straight, slowly lean forward until you feel a stretch through the groin and top of the thigh (rear leg).
• Maintain a hold for 30 seconds. Repeat 3 times.

Standing near a wall, stagger your feet with your back heel on the ground (toes pointing forward.) Lean towards the wall keeping the back heel touching the ground. Hold for 30 seconds, 3 times.

You may benefit from some of these helpful hints on how to setup your work space to be as ergonomically friendly as possible! You may also benefit from investing in a Sit to Stand desk. Also, consider setting an alarm and changing your position or go for a walk every 30 minutes to 1 hour.

When trying to improve your health in 2022, you might also consider eliminating or reducing items in your home that may pose as a risk for falls. Did you know that 34,000 deaths were related to falls in 2019 in those 65 years or older? According to the CDC, there were also 3 million emergency room visits related to falls in this population as well.
Here are some things to consider when evaluating your home environment for factors that could increase your risk for falls. (https://www.cdc.gov/falls/facts.html)
• Get rid of things you could trip over (including rugs and cords).
• Add grab bars inside and outside your tub or shower and next to the toilet.
• Put railings on both sides of stairs.
• Make sure your home has lots of light by adding more or brighter light bulbs.
• Keep items you use often in cabinets you can reach easily without using a step stool.
• Use non-slip mats in the bathtub and on shower floors.
