I’m part way through my third week of college classes. The first week, my kids only had one day of school because of a mixture of a holiday, a professional day and snow days. The second week, one of my kids was experiencing an intense situation that required a lot of involvement from my husband and me and I had a minor health issue. This week was my daughter’s 6th birthday, for which I spent a day painting and redoing her bedroom. The same daughter has been sick all week with a cold. Shes needed to be picked up from school early two days and didn’t go to school at all today. Also this week was my husband’s and my 20th wedding anniversary.
If I’m being honest, it is very possible that in the past, I would already be considering quitting. My family needs me and there is rarely a shortage of chaos around here. It can be overwhelming at times, but the changes in my mindset have made all the difference. The slides below perfect explain the difference mindset work makes. Avoiding lumping ALL the stress into one big massive stress monster is my #1 tip. I take the day in bite size chunks, and do my best to only focus on what is right in front of me. Then just take the next right step.

Thought this might be a good time to re-share this suggestion. I always feel like this time of year is so weird. It’s hard to get back in routine after the holidays, and then on top of that, the holidays tend to be prioritized above all the routine stuff, which is great…..until it all comes crashing down in January. Hope this reminder helps!!

We’re nearly half way through January. While the new year is a great time to view as a fresh start and can be a great time to start working on goals, we get to decide when we’re ready. If you had goals in mind, but have gotten off track or haven’t even started, start now. Meaningful change takes time. It takes trial and error and it takes grace with yourself. One slip up does not equal failure, one perfect day goes not equal complete success. Start small and build on that. You can still make big moves with the 351 days left in the year!

I can’t believe it’s already Jan 8! How are your New Year’s goals coming? I have a tendency to put off decisions that require a lot of thinking. I literally put off thinking about. “I need to get my thoughts together,” I tell myself.
One of those decisions for me was whether to return to school and if so, what to pursue now that all my girls are either in school or self-sufficient. That was literally #1 in my list of goals. Just make a decision. The rest will fall into place. And I’ve done it. I’m going back, with the ultimate goal of nursing school. I’m so excited about the possibilities of how I can blend nursing and coaching! Anyway, I went today and took my placement tests and have an appointment to schedule classes on Thursday.
The time will pass regardless. You are not too old. You are not too young. If you value the thing, make a decision about it.
I want to hear from you, what are your resolutions? Big or small, I want to hear!

4 days until Christmas!! This is a loving reminder that:
If you go all out and pose your elf in ways that only someone with an engineering degree can explain, you’re a great mom.
If you just move the elf to a new location when you remember, you’re a great mom.
If you don’t have an elf, you’re a great mom.
If you spent enough money on Christmas that you could have gone on a luxurious vacation, you’re a great mom.
If you’re cutting back this year because things are tight, you’re a great mom.
If you’re still not sure how you’re going to manage buying gifts, you’re a great mom.
If you’re worried that what you’re doing is too much or too little, if you’re concerned that your expectations are over the top, or if you’re just hoping your kids aren’t disappointed, you’re a great mom. You know how I know? Because all of this points to your desire to make everything wonderful for you child(ren). And that’s what’s great moms do.
PS. Whatever you’re doing is enough. 💗

Are you a mom who’s forgoing your own goals and desires in the name of responsibilities? Can I tell you a super obvious, but somehow well-kept secret? It will never all be done at the same time. Never. The supervising of children, the rearing of children, the coordination of children, the housework, the paperwork, the career work, the phone calls, the juggling, the juggling, the juggling. It just continues to evolve in new and different ways, yet remains perpetually incomplete.
So if that is the reality…..when will it be time for you? When is it time for you to work toward your own improvements or goals? We put off things as simple as a pedicure because we feel we can’t justify it. I’m a seasoned mother with children ranging from 5-19. I can tell you, there is no official end with a banner that says, “It’s time!” You have to make the time. I know that sounds impossible when you have a brand new baby or a chronically ill child. I’m not talking about taking a European vacation. I’m talking about taking a walk alone. I’m talking about claiming and protecting quiet time to yourself. Im talking about making subtle changes to your eating habits to begin inching toward change. I’m talking about beginning to research the degree you might want to get someday. The time will pass regardless of how you’re spending it. Wouldn’t it be better for you to carve out a little bit of your time and love for yourself along the way? There are multitudes of benefits of this, not the least of which is feeling more refreshed and capable for the ones depending on you. 💗

This time of year can really stretch and challenge us in many ways. This is just a reminder that you’re allowed to prioritize based on your own desires and goals. It’s ok to protect your time. It’s ok to say no. It’s ok to ask for what you need. What good is it to meet the expectations of everyone around you if you’re sacrificing your own?

We have had a monumentally stressful week in our house.
In addition to that, I had an oral surgery follow up appointment which resulted in me needing to do a 5-day run of antibiotics. My belly is not a fan. And honestly, I just want to sleep.
I’m 5 weeks into an 8 week Peloton program and today was my last day to do a one hour ride before I was locked out and moved into next week. I wanted to see my commitment through.
Not only did I complete the ride, I set a new PR.
I don’t say this for any reason other than to say. If you knew me prior to like, 2 years ago, this is all the evidence you need to prove that mindset work, works. And it is so worth it.

I love this. I truly believe we are always doing the best we can with what we have to work with at any given time. Some days that looks waaaaayyy better than others, but that’s ok!
