PLAYER/SUPPORTER/COMMUNITY APPRECIATION POST: This is the fourth tier of soccer in America, the teams and players of the NPSL are of a very high standard. The Mid-Atlantic Conference of the NPSL has an even greater concentration of the best teams in the country.

Although our record does not accurately reflect our play, we are in a position to hold our heads very high. Aside from a few short stretches in our matches (moments where we have learned valuable lessons), we have not only played well, but we have gone toe-to-toe with, and to an extent, dominated control of matches against teams who have existed for many years and who are considered some of the best in the nation.

In just a few short months, this new organization, with players having just left high school, to seasoned professionals, have played some of the best football we have seen in the league. As our captain James Pele Sesay has said over and over again, he has never seen a new team of players jell together and play so well, in such a short period of time. Our players have bought into a style of play that is truly entertaining to watch and as we develop our principles of play, we will begin adding three points to our strong performances, with wins!

We are playing in a professional system which is new to many players. Some players are not used to being a member of a large player pool of experienced and talented players of this caliber. They aren’t familiar with the match-day selection process, or the substitution rules. This can be extremely frustrating and cause certain players to develop a negative attitude towards the staff or club. Fortunately, even though some are younger and more inexperienced at this level, we do not have this negativity. To the contrary, we have players disappointed with not being selected or getting into matches, showing up to the next training session full of positivity, energy, and effort. This might be the most critical piece to our early “success” and ability to jell so well, so soon.

One area of the game that we are showing resounding success in, is with our supporters! If you have attended one of our away matches or watched the livestream of those matches you will see anywhere from 5 – 30 spectators. If you come to a home Black Roses match you will be watching with 200 – 600 fellow supporters! We, without doubt, have the strongest support of any team in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. It is because of this support, because of the quality of our players, and because of the support from our Sponsors that we know we are doing the right thing for our Community. We know that if we continue improving every part of the organization we will one day reach our ultimate goal of having true and fully professional soccer in Hagerstown.

Thank you Players for working so hard, and for being such fine young men of proper character. Thank you to the Sponsors who have stepped up to make this happen. Thank you to our Volunteers, without you our home match days would not happen. Thank you to our wonderful Supporters who provide the fuel for our players, and the atmosphere our visiting opponents long to experience. We are building this together and we are just getting started.

Much Love Hagerstown, !

"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." Bill Shankley (and Michael Long couldn't agree more)

Mauricio Pochettino said that ‘American sports reward losers’ when asked about the style of play in top European nations vs. in the U.S. 😯🇺🇸

QUESTION: “We know how England, France, Spain play… Players from countries with a strong tradition have a recognizable style. What is the style of the US team? What kind of football do the Americans want to play?”

ANSWER: “Their culture is playful. They want to play. We told them, “Guys, playing soccer is one thing, competing is another.” They’re two completely different sports. They grow up in a culture of playing. Why? If you start in MLS and you haven’t won a game in three months and you’re at the bottom, what’s the consequence if there’s no promotion or relegation, no international competition? American sports reward losers! But soccer is different: if you reward those who don’t win… If you don’t have goals, you don’t fight. If I lose, what happens? Nothing. They just fire the coach. Also, the American player is disciplined. But with a sense of complacency that isn’t good in soccer. It took us a year and a half to change that mentality.”

FC Frederick Claims First South Mountain Derby with 4-0 Victory over Hub City FC 06/12/2026

Dear Supporters, you, nor we deserved this result, and we will do our best to rectify the situation when we visit our neighbors on Saturday 6/20. We are thankful for the club's official reporter Andy Mason for accurately capturing the match!

There were 580 supporters at this match, and the "feel" Frederick's Coach Viti mentions is 100% from the atmosphere you create!

None of this would be possible without your support! We go again Saturday night 6/13 against Virginia Atlantic in Norfolk (there are a few seats on the bus remaining, if you'd like to join us send a DM).

Much Love Hagerstown, thank you for the support!
