Let there be LIGHT!!!
Stop by the park this week and check out the new solar powered, LED light fixture we are testing out. For the time being, we will be testing out the programming options to figure out what setting works best for park-goers. We will be testing this brand and looking at this and other options to install more of these in the future.
Feel free to message us with your feedback on this new light fixture.
Update: The boil water advisory was lifted on Monday night. The water at the park has been turned back on and is safe to use. Updates are available on our website.
URGENT: Please do NOT use the water spigot at the park until further notice. The Rivertown Dog Park is in the affected Boil Water Advisory Area. We will update you when the water is safe to use again. More info at www.hastingsmn.gov/water
hastingsmn.gov We have detected E. coli bacteria in a section of the City of Hastings public water system. Please read all information listed below if you live within the Hastings city limits and are served by the city water system. The bacteria is isolated to one section of our system. [12/04/17] Heads up to park-goers...the East side of the park will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 7, and possibly Friday, for tree and debris removal. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience. Please plan ahead. Thanks!
[11/01/17] As temperatures approach 32 degrees, it's time for us to turn off the water spigot for the winter. Please share this information with your fellow dog park friends. Thank you!
Did you know that the Rivertown Dog Park is located right along the 10-mile Scenic Circuit? We had fun stopping by the park and meeting a few furry friends on our bike tour yesterday. There are a few different walks, short and long, that you can access right from the park!
From time to time we hear reports of snake sightings in the Dog Park and Vermillion Falls Park. Rest assured, venomous snakes DO NOT naturally occur in Hastings. However, several harmless species, such as this Western Foxsnake, are common. Many harmless snakes may rattle their tail to alert you to their presence, and if rattling against dead leaves or rock it may sound similar to a rattlesnake. But don't be alarmed - Foxsnakes are great to have around because they eat a lot of rodents that can spread disease such as Lyme. Photo by Don Becker, IowaHerps.com
You know it's a good day at the park when you need to lie down to take a drink of water! 🤣 Photo shared by Cathy F.
Coyotes can be found in all Dakota County Parks though sightings are rare and interactions with humans/pets even more rare. This article does a great job outlining what to do should you encounter a coyote.

From time to time, we get requests and comments about volunteering to help at the park. We will happily accept the offer! To become an official volunteer, we need you to register at the Parks and Rec office. Please call 651-480-6182 or stop by at 920 W 10th Street, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. They will also provide direction and materials for available projects.
The water has been turned on for the season. We hope you enjoy the warm weather this weekend!
To operate the hydrant, simply push down on the top (at this point you will notice a short “blast” of water from the built up pressure in the line), fill up your bowl and let the dogs drink. In case you are wondering, this is water directly from the City water system and is safe for the animals to drink.

[11/16/16] Update on the water spigot: The water will be shut off for the winter on Friday, November 18th. Signs will go up at the park, but please share with your park friends. Thanks!
Just a reminder that we are closely watching the overnight temperatures to determine when we will need to shut off the water at the dog park. Most likely this will happen in the next couple of weeks as evening lows approach 32 degrees. We will notify you when the spigot is officially turned off for the winter. UPDATE: The water will be shut off on Friday, November 18.
It's been two years since we opened Rivertown Dog Park in Hastings and we'd like to get your feedback on a handful of ideas. Please take this short survey and help us plan for the future! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RTDPark
Thanks for the share @Missy Bovee. Great shot of lots of friends enjoying the park together.

What a special way to share a memory. Thank you to the mystery donor of this beautiful bench. We would appreciate more information about the donor and the person this is memorializing. For future donations, please contact the Parks and Rec Dept. at 651-480-6175 so we can work together on a maintenance plan.
Someone donated this bench to the park. It's a wonderful tribute to Tom and Ginger.

SURVEY: We've heard from people who are concerned about ticks or snakes in the long grass side of the park (West enclosure). We've also heard from people who say they and their dogs love this side. We'd like to take an informal survey to see whether or not you would like us to keep the long grass and trail side as it is, or if you would prefer us to mow some larger sections to be more like the East side.
Please indicate your preference using the Facebook Reactions. If you love the long grass and trails as they are, please choose LIKE or LOVE. If you have a concern with the long grasses and would like to see larger areas mowed, choose SAD or ANGRY. We will watch this post for one week before making a final call. Thanks for your continued feedback as we work to find a solution that works for most.

[04/27/16] We love seeing pictures of you and your pups enjoying the park. Feel free to share your favorites with us by emailing [email protected] or using the messaging feature on Facebook. We will share them here giving you proper credit.
Feeling thirsty like Rogue & Hugo? Grab a drink for your pups. The water spigot was turned on this afternoon. Happy Spring!
Thank you to everyone that helped keep Rivertown Dog Park clean over the winter. We heard about and witnessed many park-goers that volunteered their time to help pick up waste. Thank you all!
Just a quick spring update - we know you are anxiously waiting for the water to be turned on. We need to wait until the evening low temperatures are consistently at 40 degrees or above. Hopefully just a few more weeks until that happens.
