No gi worlds was tough. I hadn’t competed in a full year and had grades due during the trip, again. Monday afternoon, I found out one of my students at school was shot and killed. 17 years old. Came to school everyday with a smile on his face. Making straight A’s. His mom said all he did was talk about school.
I’ve never wanted to win so bad, but we don’t always get what we want. I was 2-1 and lost my final 0-2. Malik was gold, but my best was silver last weekend.
And to my friend, @andrealemaovasconcellos who came to me and said “man I’ve never seen you with that look on your face, I came to see what happened, make sure you’re ok” and when I told him, his whole body sank. He gave me the biggest hug and kissed the top of my head and told me loved me. I’ll never forget that and I’m lucky to have friends like Andre.
