Congratulations to Hazard Lady Dawg’s skipper Coach Keith Combs for being selected as the 2026 All Mountain Softball Coach of the Year! Coach Combs led our team to a 24-13 record, setting a new wins in a season record. Hazard won the 14th Region All A title in which he notched his 100th career victory in a win against Leslie County in the championship game. Hazard went on to reach the Elite 8 in All A State before losing to the eventual champions. Coach Keith then led Hazard to its first 14th Region Championship in 21 years with a win over region favorite Letcher County in the championship game. Combs notched his 114th career win on UK’s field at John Cropp Stadium with a 7-2 win over Ballard Memorial, advancing Hazard to the Elite 8 of the KHSAA State Tournament. Congratulations to Coach Keith Combs and staff on this recognition and for a historic season for your Hazard Lady Dawgs!!!!!!

THE Standard…..We’re glad we got to represent our school, our community, and the 14th Region.

The Hazard Lady Bulldogs’ stellar postseason run to the state softball quarterfinals this year will set the standard for future teams. It’s also a confidence boost for all mountain teams — we can compete with tough opponents outside the region.

The Hazard’s Lady Bulldogs opened state play with a 7-2 win over Ballard Memorial Friday. The game was tied after four, then Hazard exploded for five runs in the sixth to take control.

Sami Noble was dominant in the circle, striking out nine and allowing just two runs on four hits in a complete-game effort to earn WSGS Player-of-the-Game.

The win pushes Hazard to 24-12. The Lady Bulldogs face Bullitt East in the quarterfinals Saturday at 5 p.m. Catch John Newell and Phil Neace on WSGS 101.1 FM or stream it live on WSGS Facebook/YouTube.

Peyton Fields had a day at the plate for the Lady Dawgs as she was 2 for 4 with a Triple and run scored in the 3rd and then a big two RBI Triple in the 6th!
