Mississippi Mavericks - Hernando

The boys finished the day 3-1 in their first taste of 11U baseball.

W 14-12
W 11-2
W 5-4 in walk off fashion, and
L 1-8 vs. a 12 yr old grade exempt pitcher.

I am very proud of my guys! They put up a fight and had the umpires very impressed with these “only 10 year olds” playing vs these bigger, stronger 11/12 year olds and holding their own.

In just over a week we will be competing in the World Series in Panama City to close off a great Spring season!

24-13 so far but even greater than a record, we have a group of kids being pushed and bought in to learning discipline, accountability, developing their skills and learning the game the right way!

Andrew pitched great! 3 innings, 4 runs, and 2 strikeouts! Andrew kept us in the game and pushed through the heat!! He also collected a hit in the game!!

“MONEY” Play of the Game - Rivers Chaput #7

Rivers came to the plate, with 0 outs, time expired and a runner at third base. Rivers delivered with a ground ball to the second baseman, scoring the walk off run!!!

“Heart and Hustle” Award - Jaxon Blan #00

JB led off the last inning with a big single! He then advanced 1st to 3rd on a throwing error on an attempted pickoff. JB was the winning run on Rivers walk off ground out!!

Corbin pitched 4 innings, giving up 1 hit, 2R (0 ER), with 3 Ks!! He also scored 1 run in the game!!

To set the tone defensive temperature of the game, Dean fielded a high fly ball to left field in the first inning collecting the 3rd out of the game!

“Heart and Hustle” Award - Rivers Chaput #7

Rivers, although he didn’t collect a hit, was key in the offensive scoring! He scored a run and batted in 2 big runs!!

Andrew scored 3 runs, had 2 RBIs, and converted all 3 of his defensive opportunities!! Andrew was key to our win!

Top of the 4th, runners at 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, and a tie game, Corbin drives a ball into the left center gap playing two runs on a double!! His second hit and 3rd and 4th RBIs of the game!

“Heart and Hustle” Award - Dean Gartrell #44

Dean came in clutch for us. Pitching a perfect bottom of the 4th with 2 strikeouts, collecting the save!!

Corbin started on the mound. He threw 2.2 IP, 1H, 0R, and 1K. He also was responsible for 2 additional outs in the field.

With bases loaded and 1 out, Corbin fields a swinging bunt in front of the mound and flips it to Jaxon for the force out at home to keep the score to 0.

In the final inning, with a runner at 2nd and 3rd, Corbin picked off behind the runner who was backpedaling to the bag. Andrew received the ball and the rundown ensued. Andrew threw to Jax, Jax ran him back towards third and made the return throw back to Andrew who slapped the tag for the 2nd out!!

Proud of these guys. We didn’t play perfect and missed some plays we normally make, but persistence and discipline took over, we made the next play, and held them to a 0!!

Shout out to the OF as well!! 2-2 on fly ball opportunities! Carter and Deano!!

***Delayed posts due to no break Saturday. We finished 2-2 on the weekend, losing 8-4 in the semis, to one of the best defensive teams we’ve played/seen.

Remi was lights out on the mound. Coming in relief to throw 3 innings, giving up 2H, 0R, and racking up 5Ks! Remi was also 1-1 with a run scored in the game!

“MONEY” Play of the Game - Rivers Chaput #7

Rivers anchored the hot corner for us in this game. He converted both opportunities he had including a 3rd inning play where he ranged to his left, handled a shot headed towards the 6-hole, and converted the out for the third of the inning. The play stranded runners at 2nd and 3rd!

“Heart and Hustle” Award - Andrew Gordon #27

Andrew again showed his ability to get things done in a variety of ways. He produced two more quality ABs driving in two runs in the game. He also anchored the opposite corner of the infield of Rivers, and came down with two big pop flys to stop the Expos scoring in the first inning.

Pool Game 1-

“MONEY” Player of the Game - Hayes Waller #1

Hayes led the way at the plate going 2-2, 2R, and 2 RBIs, including an RBI double!! Hayes was also perfect in his defensive opportunities converting both plays!

“MONEY” Play of the Game - Eli Hanna #2, Jaxon Blan #00, Hayes Waller #1

Eli entered the game to pitch in the 2nd with runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out. He gets a weak grounder hit back to him. Reading the runner breaking home, he makes a throw to Jax at catcher, who runs the runner back towards third to Hayes. Hayes ends the rundown with a tag, converting the 2nd out, saving the run.

Both of these guys put up quality and productive ABs with runners on base. Each made contact each time up, and while they had 0 hits in the box score, they had two RBIs each, which contributed greatly to our win!!
