STOP WATCHING THEIR SCOREBOARD

“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” — Proverbs 14:30 NIV

Pickleball makes comparison way too easy.

Their DUPR went up.
They got invited to the better game.
They medaled.
They’re progressing faster.
They’ve only been playing six months and somehow they’re already that good. 😑😂

Before you know it, you’re so busy watching their journey that you stop appreciating what God is doing in yours.

And Proverbs warns us about exactly that.

“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.”

Envy doesn’t make you better.

It steals your peace while changing absolutely nothing about their success.

And here’s the harder biblical truth:

Someone else’s blessing isn’t evidence that God forgot about you.

Their season isn’t your season.
Their gifts aren’t your gifts.
Their assignment isn’t your assignment.

🏓 Learn from better players—don’t resent them.

👏 Celebrate somebody else’s medal.

🙏🏽 Thank God for your own progress.

💪🏽 Then get back to work.

Because comparison asks:

“Why are they ahead of me?”

Faith asks:

“God, what are You developing in me?”

🙏 PRAYER

Lord, protect my heart from comparison and envy. Help me genuinely celebrate what You’re doing in other people’s lives without questioning what You’re doing in mine. Give me peace with where I am, discipline to keep growing, and faith to trust Your timing. Keep my eyes on You and the path You’ve placed before me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Their progress doesn’t cancel yours.

Stay grateful. Stay faithful. Keep playing your game. 🏓✝️

CONTROL WHAT’S INSIDE

“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” — Proverbs 16:32 NIV

You know the moment.

You miss an easy d**k.

Then somebody hits a net cord. 😑

Then you get a bad call.

Now you’re frustrated—and you’re not playing your opponent anymore.

You’re playing your emotions.

And once frustration controls your decisions, discipline disappears.

But Proverbs gives us a different definition of strength.

The world often celebrates the person who dominates.

God points us toward the person who can control themselves.

That’s powerful.

Because you can have the hardest drive on the court, incredible hands and all the athletic ability in the world…

but if you can’t control your emotions when things aren’t going your way, your emotions will eventually control your game.

And that’s bigger than pickleball.

Marriage. Work. Parenting. Conflict. Disappointment.

Anybody can stay composed when everything is going their way.

Character shows when it isn’t.

🏓 Control the emotion.
🏓 Reset your mind.
🏓 Play the ball in front of you.

✝️ And remember: real strength isn’t always overpowering what’s in front of you. Sometimes it’s surrendering what’s happening inside you to God.

🙏 PRAYER

Lord, give me patience and self-control when things don’t go my way. Help me respond instead of react. When frustration rises, remind me that my attitude and actions should reflect You. Give me strength over my emotions—on the court and everywhere else. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You don’t have to control the match.

Control your response. Trust God with the rest. 🏓🙏🏽

STOP RUSHING THE POINT

“Desire without knowledge is not good—how much more will hasty feet miss the way!” — Proverbs 19:2 NIV

This is pickleball all day. 🔥

You get an attackable-looking ball and speed it up too early.

You rush through transition instead of earning your way to the kitchen.

You try to finish the point when the point isn’t ready to be finished.

And the same thing happens in life.

We want the promotion now.
The breakthrough now.
The answer now.
The result now.

There’s nothing wrong with desire. Proverbs actually says desire without knowledge is the problem—and warns about being hasty.

Sometimes we’re asking God to accelerate something while He’s trying to prepare us for it.

🏓 You don’t have to attack every ball.
✝️ You don’t have to force every opportunity.

Patience isn’t doing nothing.

Patience is staying disciplined while you wait for the right moment.

Build the point.
Make the right decision.
Trust the process.

And most importantly—

Trust God’s timing.

🙏 PRAYER

Lord, give me patience when I want to rush. Give me wisdom to know when to move and when to wait. Keep me from forcing doors, decisions, and opportunities simply because I want the result now. Help me trust that Your timing is better than mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Don’t rush the point God is still developing. 🏓✝️

COACHABLE > COMFORTABLE

“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.” — Proverbs 12:1 NIV

🔥 That’s an attention-grabber.

Because everybody wants to get better…

until getting better requires somebody to tell us what we’re doing wrong.

Your coach tells you to stop attacking that ball.

Your partner tells you you’re speeding up too early.

Someone points out your positioning.

And immediately our pride wants to answer:

“Yeah, but…”

But correction isn’t an attack on your ability.

It’s an opportunity to improve it.

A wise player doesn’t only practice what they’re already good at. They become willing to hear what they don’t want to hear and work on what they don’t want to work on.

Proverbs takes that principle beyond the court.

God’s Word doesn’t exist simply to confirm what we already believe. Sometimes Scripture corrects us. Convicts us. Redirects us.

And that’s a gift.

Because God loves us too much to leave us exactly where we are.

🏓 On the court: Be coachable.

✝️ In life: Be correctable.

🙏🏽 With God: Be teachable.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

The next time someone gives you correction, fight the urge to defend yourself.

Listen.

Ask: “Is there something here I can learn?”

Then take that same posture into prayer:

“Lord, show me what needs work in me.”

🙏 PRAYER

Lord, give me a teachable heart. Remove the pride that makes me resist correction. Help me listen, learn, and grow. Give me wisdom to recognize good instruction and humility to apply it—on the court and in my walk with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You can’t ask God to grow you while refusing to be corrected.

Stay humble. Stay coachable. Keep growing. 🏓✝️

PLAY SMART. NOT HERO BALL!

“Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools.” — Romans 1:22 NIV

Sometimes the shot that makes us look the smartest is actually the foolish one.

We see a tiny opening. We’re off balance. The ball is below the net. But instead of resetting and staying in the point…

We go for the hero shot.

Why?

Sometimes it’s impatience. Sometimes ego. Sometimes we want to end the rally instead of doing the disciplined thing.

Pickleball teaches us something important: just because you CAN attack doesn’t mean you SHOULD.

And there’s a spiritual lesson there too.

Romans 1 warns us about what happens when people believe their own wisdom is greater than God’s. Biblical wisdom isn’t about proving how smart we are—it begins with recognizing who God is and trusting His way above ours.

The smartest play isn’t always the flashiest one.

Sometimes wisdom looks like:

• Resetting instead of attacking.
• Dinking one more ball.
• Waiting for the right opportunity.
• Choosing percentage over pride.

And life isn’t much different.

Sometimes God says wait when we want to force it.

Sometimes He says trust Me when we think we know better.

Sometimes the strongest decision you can make is not the spectacular one—it’s the obedient one.

🙏 PRAYER

Lord, give me wisdom that comes from You. Teach me patience, discipline, and humility. Help me stop forcing things just because I want the outcome now. On the court and in life, help me make decisions with purpose and trust Your way above my own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You don’t have to win the point on every ball.

Stay disciplined. Build the point. Wait for the right ball.

And in life…

Trust God enough to stop forcing the shot. 🙏🏽

DON’T LET THE LAST POINT PLAY THE NEXT ONE.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” — Isaiah 43:18–19 NIV

In pickleball, one mistake can quickly become five.

You miss an easy ball. You keep thinking about it. You tighten up—and suddenly a point that’s already over is affecting the one you’re playing now.

We do the same thing in life.

We replay the failure.
The bad decision.
The opportunity we missed.

But God can teach you through your past without asking you to live there.

Peter denied Jesus three times. Yet Jesus restored him, and Peter went on to boldly proclaim the very Christ he once denied.

His failure became part of his testimony—not his identity.

Maybe yesterday wasn’t your best.

Take the lesson.
Give God the weight.
And play the next point.

🏓 Great players develop a short memory.
✝️ Followers of Christ develop a renewed mind.

🙏 PRAYER

Lord, help me learn from yesterday without living in it. Renew my mind, strengthen my faith, and help me trust You with what’s ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The last point is over. God isn’t.

Reset. Trust Him. Play the next ball. 🏓✝️

ONE BAD MATCH DOESN’T DEFINE YOU.

“For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again…”
— Proverbs 24:16 NIV

You missed the serve.
Dumped the third shot into the net.
Made the wrong decision.
Lost a match you thought you should win.

And suddenly that little voice starts talking:

“Maybe I’m just not good enough.”

But one bad match doesn’t define the player you’re becoming.

And one bad day doesn’t define the person God is shaping you to become.

The Bible doesn’t say the righteous never fall.

It says they get back up.

Sometimes God does some of His greatest work in us through the losses, mistakes, disappointments, and moments when things don’t go according to our plan.

Because winning can show you what you’re capable of.

But losing can reveal what still needs work.

So learn from it.
Pray about it.
Get back on the court.
And keep going.

Your mistake isn’t your identity.
Your loss isn’t your identity.
Your rating isn’t your identity.

Your identity is in Christ. ✝️

🏓 TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
The next time you make a mistake—on the court or in life—don’t carry it into the next point.

Reset. Pray. Trust God.

Then play the next ball.

“More Than the Game”

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”

Sometimes on the pickleball court, we get caught up in the details — what paddle we’re using, what gear we’ve got, what snacks we packed, or even how our body feels that day. But Jesus reminds us: life is more than the gear, the grind, and the game.

When we stop worrying and start trusting, we free ourselves to enjoy what truly matters — the joy of the moment, the gift of community, and the presence of God in every serve and rally.

Today’s Prayer:
Lord, help me let go of worry and focus on what matters most — Your love, Your presence, and the purpose You’ve placed in me, even on the pickleball court.
