In 1993 Roehrig Engineering operated inside of Pratt Miller building in Wixom, MI. Kurt had an office and a hallway. Literally, I was building shock dynos in a hallway. What's even funnier is that this hallway was shared with shipping and receiving. Sometimes we had to stop building and receive the UPS boxes!!
But really, some of the best times of my life.
To Gary Pratt, Bill Delong and Ron (whom did all of our machining) thank you!!

Here's a little-known fact about Kurt. He was a match maker. 30 years ago, on this date (June 1st), I went on a blind date with a girl that Kurt arranged. I thank Kurt and Carmella to this day. 30 years later we are still together.
Thank you!!
The software Kurt first used came on a 3.5" floppy disk. I have one of the original copies. It was DOS based and it was written by Chris Wallach.

Chris Wallach also came back to help with the first commercially available EMA.
Little know fact about both Kurt and a man named Chris Wallach.
...Kurt first met Chris Wallach in the mid-80’s. (This likely happend at Skip Barber Racing School) Chris had developed a data acquisition system, MRG, for race cars. Kurt used one of Chris’s systems to begin doing race car engineering with data. The basis of this system, collecting signals vs time, was used for the first shock dyno software. This is a very historic moment for the racing industry. Chris had built 5 systems (?) and Kurt was using one to do track data and engineering to various race teams in the Detroit area. Jack Roush was one of those customers. So put that down as a note in time, data acquisition on race cars in the mid to late 80’s. A system that a person could buy and use.
Kurt's decisions on his first shock dyno laid the groundwork for decades of testing methods. He had to start somewhere and the 10 in/sec test, 2-inch preload was that starting point. It was not long after that he spent the rest of his time trying to convince people to go beyond that test. Do more, see more in your damper!! This is a battle that continues to this very day.

The NASCAR Bilstein trailer that started so much of what Kurt Roehrig and Roehrig Engineering did to help push forward the world of damper testing. This picture was shared by Dave Lovendahl. And in this trailer, the world of NASCAR would change one damper test at a time. Up until Kurt put a dyno in this trailer, people judged the damper based on compressing it and seeing how fast it extended. Being able to test, quantify and change the damper with actual measurements opened the door that will never close.
I think I could talk about this for hours. Maybe I will. But right now, it is a great memory.
Thank you David.
Thank you Kurt.
Thank you all.

WOW! A Kurt Roehrig History moment.
Charlie Downs was a race winner at Lime Rock and look who he was battling for the championship, Kurt Roehrig!!
A contender in the Le Car days – losing the 1983 title to Kurt Roehrig in a contested battle – Downes took off with the Encore in what was called the Renault Facom Cup East Coast Championship. He won three races and the title in 1984, and one race among three podiums the following year. Downes ended up with five total victories – tied for the most in series’ history.

Found some history out in the wild!
EMA- #08. The 8th one built by REI. It has seen better days.
We found EMA #008.
I think i’ll turn it into a speaking podium and coffee cup holder!!

We were trying to determine all the races and drivers that RMI ran. Someone found this on the internets.
Very cool history.
