Trail Guides of Greater St. Louis Area Council, B.S.A.

Comments

Joe Sartorius has convinced me that we should write the history of the Beaumont Scout Reservation. A book like this takes quite a while to research, write, and produce. My best guess for publishing would be 2024 which would be the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Council securing the title for the property, and the seventieth anniversary of the first Boy Scout summer camp at Camp May in 1954. We have already recruited a great team of Scouters to help us. The skills they offer include layout, photography, cover, research, Trail Guides, St. Louis Eagle Scout Association, and historical memory. If you have photographs, stories, questions, or information that you would like us to consider, please PM the both of us.
Bob Schwedtmann is our lead for the Trail Guides.

The inaugural Nagel Round Up was a huge success! Our Scouts and families had a great time getting up close and personal with our horses.

Thanks to the Trail Guides of Greater St. Louis Area Council, B.S.A. and all the volunteers that made this event happen.

There are still plenty of opportunities to interact with the herd. Go to https://stlbsa.org/2020-fall-outdoor-experiences/.
I'm sorry to inform everyone of the passing of Denise Westerhold Gantner. Denise was an active trail guide in the 80's, Swift Wrangler in 1982 and an all-around good, kind and loving person. She will be missed. Visitation and funeral information in the link.
There's a milk crate of lost and found items from Horse Camp in the tack room. I saw ball caps, phone charger, sweat shirt, etc.

Romeo did not want me to stop scratching his neck🐴

Reserve an activity or come camp at Beaumont so you can come pet and say hello to the herd 🐴

One way we bond with our equines is through grooming. I had just been scratching Romeo’s favorite spot on his neck and withers and he decided to groom me back.

Come take a ride with us to see Romeo in person 🐎

10/17/2022

One way people can get an estimate on the age of a horse is by an examination of their teeth. Depending what teeth are present and if there are grooves or rings visible we can determine their age.

Why do horses roll? Well there are lots of reasons!
It could be to relieve tension, an insect bite, their stomach may be upset, or as simple as they want a really good back scratch, so it’s important to know each horse’s personality and work with your vet to determine the root cause of behaviors.
This is Copper and he like to roll after every ride. He has been like this for many many years and for him it is because he loves a good back scratch. His favorite brush a is rubber curry to get all the good spots after a ride but he thinks he scratches himself better doing this.

10/05/2022

Horses as a species are demonstrative comunicators

Bullwinkle and Copper were grooming eachother.

What does this mean?

Grooming and resting their heads on eachother are some of the ways horses will cominicate care and affection. Sometimes they will even groom people to show how much they love them and it is polite to scratch them back.
