#400. this is a very heart felt post . Kim has stayed consistent for 400 logged sessions here at the Body Shop . Her transformation is something far beyond amazing . She has been into win it for years now. She also brings her daughter Maya who will be something very special when she grows up because she has been around the gym seeing it only works if you work it. Kim - thank you for all you do. Special shout out to you and your Fam mama . We will prevail

To my clients and friends, I have some news.

On August 1st, 2024, our current Body Shop in its present iteration will be closing its doors.

When the original Body Shop opened in Zeeland six and a half years ago, I had never had my own spot or owned my own brick-and-mortar business. The little garage on Washington Ave in Zeeland that we moved into was in ROUGH shape, and I, with many of you, put blood, sweat, and tears into making that space what it was for close to five years. Our first three years showed a steady growth trajectory as we welcomed so many new members. Many of those original clients are still with me today, and I’m proud to call them not just clients, but friends.

Then, COVID came. While many local businesses (especially fitness facilities) were decimated, particularly as many folks moved to find ways to work out at home, we hung in there. People pitched in and we found ways to keep the doors open to keep providing ways for our members to progress in their health goals.

The truth is, my business never really recovered from that time. It has been a labor of love to keep the lights on and the doors open ever since. My expenses only increased when we moved last year into our current space. The space pays for itself and a little bit, but I’ve never been able to pay myself a salary. I’ve hung in there because of the awesome support my wife has provided our family financially, and with the grit and determination of not wanting to leave any of you behind. We’ve pivoted and tried so many things, but nothing has really moved the needle to make this a fully financially successful endeavor.

I’m a trainer- it’s who I am. Since college, training has been what I love as well as my vocation. I believe my gifts and mission are to touch the lives of many and to help those around me to become the best version of themselves. I hope that in some way I have touched your life. However, I can’t continue to operate the business in the way I have been.

I want to thank all of you for your support and patronage over the years. I have so many of you to thank that all the names won’t fit here. But I’ve seen so many of you help me build my brand, tell your friends about the gym, get married, have kids, and live life here at the Body Shop. I’ve seen people go from never-stepping into a gym in their lives to experiencing huge transformations. Many of you have met lifelong friends here. I know saying goodbye to such a special place will likely bring up a lot of emotions, and trust me, they have for me too. I’m honored to have helped build a community and be a witness to a part of your life.

So what’s next?

I will still be training and helping clients meet their fitness and transformation goals.

If you’re a current member, I will be working with each of you to transition or phase out your current memberships. I am now going to be offering my training plans via my mobile app, and if you’d like to use my plans wherever you may work out, I’d love to set you up!

If you’ve been away from the gym for a while, and want to do some training but haven’t been able to make it in person, you might also want to check out my app plans.

I will continue to be offering private sessions where I can come to your home, meet you at a park, or meet you at a gym like Planet Fitness. Contact me to schedule a session or several!

I am going to be ramping up content again on my OG Nation page on Facebook, where we can continue the community that we’ve created and support each other towards our goals. If you’re not a part of this community, let me know and I’ll add you.

We will having a little ‘goodbye for now’ to the gym celebration in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more details if you’d like to come and bid farewell to the gym.

I am keeping my eyes open for a smaller space for private 1:1 sessions. If I do find the perfect spot at the right price point, I’ll absolutely let you all know.

On a personal note, I cannot express how grateful I am that the Brummels have been with us on our entire journey, from helping to create our original brand, to painting walls, to being some of our first members, to creating social media posts and posters and business cards, to showing up time and time again in every iteration, to taking a chance with us on collaborating in our current space. So much love to you both Toddie and Toph- I couldn’t have been on this journey or done this without you.

Lastly, no matter where you go next or what you decide to do, please stay in touch. You have all impacted my life so deeply that I’m already in tears (typical). I could not have done any of this without you and your support.

The Body Shop will be changing it's business model in the first week of August. More info will be released in the very nearest future. As requested by many and what is trending now - we will be pivoting to online digital mobile app delivery and more intimate one-on-one in-person and small group mobile sessions. As the world leans towards more convenient options- we got you covered. Change is also a key ingredient in the success recipe. To all our amazing members we will elaborate more very soon. To all my amazing body shop members, you may have caught a piece of the video i posted in OG nation, and be wondering what this means for you. Specifically I am trying hard to listen to where, and what the needs are for those who i am training. The demand lies heavily in the online space. I am excited about an opportunity to pivot back to a platform i know well and that i know works. I will be reaching out to you all, as i can, in the gym to talk through this transition, but i will also be specifically adressing this tomorrow broadly on facebook to my bodyshop members to talk about what this looks like.
