There are several great summer sports camps taking place in Abington this summer:

TOTAL INSTRUCTIONAL BASEBALL CAMP (ages 8-16, June 24-28). Program Director Lee Saverio writes: "TIBC is now in it's 25th year, and we will be back in Roslyn again this summer! Come learn the fundamentals of the game from college coaches and players. We do drill work in the morning and play games in the afternoon. Come sharpen your skills, win a PWS, and have lots of fun. See everybody on the 24th."

Any local baseball fan who remembers Lee Saverio can attest to his grit, determination and enthusiasm both as a player and a manager. After his playing days were over, Leo transitioned to manager of the Lansdale Legion team where his players and opposing managers quickly learned he was no shrinking violet.
As this photograph shows, Saverio could still mix it up with the best of them. Seven years after he hung up his glove at age 40 he was forced into duty as an emergency catcher for the Lansdale Tigers of the Perkiomen Valley League where he was coaching at the time. We’re missing the date of this but I think it was in 1969.
