Fort Bend County Parks and Fairgrounds

Tropical Depression Five has strengthened and is now Tropical Storm Edouard over the Gulf.

As of the 7 p.m. advisory, Edouard has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and is moving west-northwest at 6 mph. The current forecast brings the system toward the Upper Texas Coast on Tuesday, with weakening expected as it moves inland.

For Fort Bend County, heavy rainfall remains our primary concern. While we have certainly needed the rain, tropical moisture can produce significant rainfall in a short amount of time, increasing the potential for street flooding, flash flooding and rises along area streams and rivers.

⚠️ A few important reminders:

* The forecast cone shows the probable path of the center of Edouard — impacts can occur well outside the cone.
* Fort Bend County is not currently under a Tropical Storm Warning.
* Conditions and rainfall forecasts can change as the system approaches the coast.
* Never drive through a flooded roadway — Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

The Fort Bend County Emergency Operations Center will continue to closely monitor Tropical Storm Edouard and coordinate with the National Weather Service and our local partners as we head into Tuesday and Wednesday.

Stay weather-aware and make sure you have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.

🌳 Another Great Fort Bend County Parks Project is Complete! 🎉

A new chapter for G.W. Longserre Park in Thompsons is here!

Thanks to the voter approved 2023 Fort Bend County Parks Bond, Fort Bend County Parks & Recreation, Precinct 3, and the Town of Thompsons have worked together to bring exciting improvements to this longtime community park.

The newly completed 40-by-80-foot pavilion provides a beautiful covered space for community gatherings, family celebrations and special events. The improvements include an enclosed kitchen, built-in barbecue pit, lighting, ceiling fans and more.

Visitors can also enjoy a new walking trail and additional park upgrades, creating even more opportunities for residents and families to get outside, connect and make memories together.

This project is more than a new pavilion. It represents the impact of voter investment in our parks and the continued commitment of Fort Bend County Parks & Recreation to enhancing the quality of life in our communities.

🖤 Remembering a Hometown Legend: O.J. Brigance

Fort Bend County Parks & Recreation mourns the passing of O.J. Brigance, a Houston-area football legend whose impact reached far beyond the playing field.

From Willowridge High School and Rice University to a professional career that included a Grey Cup championship and a Super Bowl championship with the Baltimore Ravens, O.J. Brigance represented determination, perseverance and excellence at every level.

But his greatest legacy may be the strength and courage he displayed throughout his 19-year battle with ALS. Even in the face of tremendous adversity, O.J. continued to inspire others through his faith, leadership and commitment to helping people.

Here in Fort Bend County, his name lives on at O.J. Brigance Field at South Post Oak SportsPlex. This is a place where young athletes can compete, grow, dream and create their own legacy.

Every time a young athlete steps onto that field, his name will continue to be remembered.

Thank you, O.J., for showing us what true courage looks like.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and everyone whose life he touched.

With its long neck, bright white feathers, and striking black legs and feet, the Great Egret is hard to miss. These beautiful birds are often found around ponds, lakes, wetlands, and marshy areas where they patiently search for their next meal.

🧐 Did you know? Great Egrets are expert hunters! They often stand completely still before quickly striking with their long, pointed bills to catch fish, frogs, insects, and other small aquatic animals.

🌳 The next time you’re enjoying one of our parks, take a moment to look around. Our parks aren’t just places to play and relax, they’re also home to an incredible variety of wildlife.
