Two of our most dedicated members received belts today!
Sarah has been training hard consistently and has earned her blue belt!
Arbie has been a member with us for many years and is one of the most helpful, hardworking and genuine members in our gym. Today, Arbie earned his purple belt!
Many of us have waited a while to see these two get they're well-deserved reward! Congratulations to you both! The road is long, but every step forward is as important as the first.

It's time to introduce our team! With over 35 years experience in Martial Arts and 17+ years in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Professor Matt MacDonald is a second degree Black Belt under Professor Rodrigo Munduruca.
Professor Matt is known for his attention to detail in all aspects of combat and is responsible for coaching some of the top child/teen Jiu Jitsu athletes in Manitoba. He is also Winnipeg's only Jiu Jitsu instructor ever to produce a GOLD medal in the most prestigious child/teen tournament in the world, the IBJJF 2020 PanKids.

A big shout-out to Nikos from Saskatchewan! He traveled down to Texas this last week to compete at the Houston Winter International Open.
Training out of InFight (QCMA) in Regina, Nikos represented the prairies well and brought home gold!
Congratulations Nikos! Thank you for working hard and showing our southern relatives how we do things up north!

Jiujitsu may be primarily about fighting but its benefits extend far beyond just combat capabilities. This week while in NYC met these wildcats from across the pond. Great people, great jiujitsu, and friendships made. Our little community from Regina, SK is growing with these friendships!!
Also, that is indeed in this photo. Jiujitsu can quite literally turn your idols into friends in no time flat. Try having a conversation with a pro basketball player or hockey player and it feels like you're from mars. On the mat... Everyone is accessible and friendly!! Thank you for the rolls and the memories everyone!!

The future of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu always looks a little brighter when we get a glimpse of what's to come through our younger generations.
This is Isla Sobejana Diesmos, the 12 year old girl who is making noise all across Canada! Isla has won over 25 medals since 2015! Training out of one of the oldest BJJ clubs in Calgary, she won 17 gold medals and 8 silver medals in her first three years of competing!
When he heard her fellow students at school were being rude and pushing her around, Isla's father put her into Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Fight Club out of Calgary, Alberta in order to build confidence and self-esteem. Now, Isla is a force to be reckoned with!
Keep pushing, Isla! You are an inspiration. Thank you

February 29th was the debut of Winnipeg Ground Games! The prairies were thrilled to have another tournament so close to home.
Once the word was out excitement filled gyms across the Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta as yet another opportunity to do what they love showed itself! Shout out to all took part!

In February a call went out across the Canada yet again. The 2020 Submission Ace Championship: Winter Classic returned to put the prairies to the test.
Held in Blackfalds, Alberta, it was a sight to behold! It is truly a tournament by grapplers, for grapplers.
The turnout this year was record breaking and the skill level was phenomenal. A huge shout out to all the competitors who attended and all coaches who made that possible!
