We hope we'll look cool, but deep down we all know this how we'll actually look when the time comes to confront whatever it is that went bump in the night.

Finally getting around to a much needed upgrade to level IV ceramic plates. For years I used steel body armor which I've known is not the best option due to it's possibility to cause fragmentation when a round impacts on it, and that is dangerous because it's counterproductive to it's intended use as as a life saving device, the reason I used it for so long was because I was in the mindset of "it's good enough for now" and as I've been training and progressing as an instructor I've come to the realization that I can't have that mindset I have to keep pushing for perfection at all times in all aspects of how I teach, train, and live.

So something I never thought would happen to me, happened this weekend. I want to start off by saying I know these wounds aren't serious in the slightest and I am immensely grateful for that, this could have been so much worse. Some of you already know the story as you were there, but to summarize I was at the range for a demo day and had just got done shooting my first gun of the day when I hear a shot go off then right after feel something hit me in a few different spots. Come to find out someone had a negligent discharge into the ground and I was the lucky winner of the bullet fragments. I'm posting this not for sympathy but to show what happens what happens when fi****ms and carelessness are mixed. I'm super thankful this is all I got from the incident and that no one else was seriously injured. What I want anyone reading this to takeaway is that safety is #1 when it comes to shooting. If you only ever get training once please make it be a shooting safety course from and I'm not even going to say just from me but from anyone be safe hitting the range, watch others around you that may be doing unsafe things, and keep your guns pointed down range at all times.

I'm a strong believer in teaching your children about firearm safety and proper usage. Satisfying that natural curiosity children have can be all it takes to avoid a fatal mistake. For this reason I offer firearm safety classes for both adults and children for those who are interested.

Some may wonder, why did I pick the name Papa Bear Tactical. Well because I wanted to emulate the perceived personality of bears. Sure they look cute and cuddly from a distance, but get too close and well they'll absolutely rip you to shreds and and have no remorse about it. As a father and husband I strive to be this way when protecting my family. You can admire them from a distance but get to close and show signs of being a threat and you will be dealt with swiftly and without hesitation. This is the knowledge I wish to pass on to make others confident in themselves and their abilities to protect themselves and those they care about.

Just like that my first official class has been completed. I was super nervous and excited to finally have students to teach. I enjoyed every moment of it and can't wait to have more classes.
