Robert De Niro was born on August 1943, in New York City, into an artistic family. He began his career in the 1960s and rose to prominence with roles in Bang the Drum Slowly (1973), Mean Streets (1973), and especially The Godfather Part II (1974), which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He continued to impress with Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980 – Best Actor Oscar), Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, The Irishman (2019), and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023). Beyond acting, he co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival, the global Nobu restaurant chain, and is a vocal advocate for social justice, arts education, and climate action. With over 60 years of dedication, De Niro stands as a living icon of cinematic excellence and civic responsibility.

Beyond the stage, Taboo’s 2016 anthem “Stand Up / Stand N Rock” earned a Native American Music Award for its solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. As an ambassador for health, education, and indigenous rights, he mentors youth and champions cultural preservation—continuing to inspire a new generation of artists.

Chief Dan George (born Geswanouth Slahoot, July 24, 1899 – Tsleil-Waututh Nation, Canada) was a remarkable actor, poet, writer, and spiritual leader of Indigenous heritage.
He rose to fame with his unforgettable role as Old Lodge Skins in Little Big Man (1970), earning him an Oscar nomination – the first ever for an Indigenous Canadian actor.
Beyond the screen, he was a powerful voice for Indigenous rights, tirelessly advocating for cultural preservation, environmental protection, and social justice.
Through his poetry, books, speeches, and community work, he inspired pride, unity, and cultural awareness, empowering future generations of Indigenous youth.

The Rappahannock homeland is primarily in northeastern Virginia.

MACQUEEN HOUSE, circa 1886. The best hotel in Miles City, Montana. Hotel guests included Teddy Roosevelt, John Philip Sousa, Henry Ward Beecher, Sen. Joe Dixon, Gen. Nelson Miles, Buffalo Bill Cody, Charlie Russell, and every Montana governor during its existence. The hotel was home to several English remittance men. The building was destroyed by fire in 1897.

The hotel’s outside lights were powered by the city’s nearby electric plant. The hotel’s basement housed the laundry, water well, and coal-burning boiler to produce steam heat. Behind the hotel were a stable and sleeping quarters for servants. The hotel was built in 1882, shortly after the arrival of the Northern Pacific Railroad. It was at the NW corner of 5th and Pacific, south of the present Riverside Park. The rarely seen photo was by L.A. Huffman. Research and small-file digital restoration of photo by Gary Coffrin.

L.A. Huffman is my favorite photographer. Huffman bragged that some of his best exposures were captured from atop his horse. And, I suspect that this photo was taken from his horse. Huffman could have been on a wagon, but the photo’s horizontal alignment was significantly off before I adjusted it. If Huffman had used his tripod on a wagon, alignment would have likely been better.
