It's official, I am retiring from it and there will be no 2019 SECTS series. We've had a good run but with two of my key partners gone along with our venue I've decided to stand down.
The idea of a weekly grassroots cross practice series was started over a decade ago by Kelly Strader as the YetiCross. He handed it down to Frank Karbarz who ran it a couple of years before giving it to me and my team. I would absolutely love to see it continue in some form so if any individual/club, etc is interested please let me know. I will be happy to share my contacts with the county and the logistics of the series. The county likes us and I feel pretty certain they will help find another location in the parks system to use. We have run it as a USAC non-competitive event for insurance purposes. You won't get rich but if run right will break even or turn a small profit.
Spread the word and thanks for your support over the years.

It's still early but there's some potential gloom and doom for this year's SECTS I need to share.
Most major in case you haven't heard the flood control groups are now building the long delayed detention pond right where our beloved course has been for the last 7 years. It's completely fenced in and under lock and key so hard to determine what's being done but there's no way it will he finished by the fall and whether we can still build a course around it.
Also our official and my longtime partner in this Jim Quinn has retired and moved to Georgetown, he is not planning on commuting in for Wednesday afternoons! As well, Frank the constable has also retired. He really enjoyed working with us and was truly a part of the team.
The park likes us. I think the commissioner would do his best to find us an alternative location but I know of nothing else in the precinct that is so ideal as far as relative location, parking, and terrain. I'm not totally throwing in the towel yet and I would hate for this longtime Houston idea to wither but this might just be the time.
It is with great regret that I have to announce that our final race of the year is cancelled for this afternoon. It has rained over an inch there over the last two days and continues to come down. I was talking with Frank this morning, I believe this is our 7th season and we could only remember one cancelled race in the first six years, now 3 out of 6 this time. Kind of sucks but instrumental to staying in the good graces of Pct 4 is being a good steward of the public park lands.
Thanks to Jim, Dennis, and Frank for being the team that makes this happen. And a big thanks to David, Christine, Colleen, and John for helping each week with scoring and course teardown. Thanks to Jimmy Boyle of Sun and Ski for sponsoring our series. And thanks to all you racers for coming out and showing up.
I love doing this event and God willing, I plan to be back for Season 8 next September. See ya'll!

Results from last week. Keeping an eye on the weather for tomorrow.
We missed ya'll last night! Small turnout but great conditions, actual fall-like temperatures. Sun and Ski brought enough prizes so that almost everyone got something.
I know it's been a crazy year for our series and cross in Houston in general. Next week is our last race for the year. Please come out and tell your friends. Halloween costumes are welcome.
Race is on for tonight. Frank did a recon and says dry enough. Cool temps, come get some!

Here's last week's results.
Race is ON today! Spread the word! Sun and Ski will be there for support and prizes. Bring your numbers if you raced the first week.
ATTENTION: Race is cancelled!
A short but heavy downpour over the race site has made it a muddy mess again and the county has asked us to stay off. Sorry for the late notice, please share this so no one shows up to nothing.
Race is on for today. Frank just did a driveby for us and says it's tacky but okay. We'll be there setting up around 3, doing a no rain dance. Come join and bring your numbers with you if you were there the first week.
ANNOUNCEMENT, PLEASE SHARE
Cancelling today's race. .76" of rain so far at site and still coming down. We need to be good stewards of the land to keep using the park. Please spread the word so no one makes a trip out for nothing. We will resume next Wednesday.
