A very special celebration of my birthday today, as I recall what turned out to be an unforgettable day at the TOKYO Marathon two weeks ago. My heart is overflowing with pure gratitude, for so many awesome people I have the fortune to call family and friends, for the blessing and priceless gift of health, and for the means to be able to pursue passion and adventures like this one, throughout our beautiful and amazing planet.
I also want to dedicate this post to the doctor who saw me in mid-December, a couple of days after I suffered a fracture on my right foot. Without asking any questions or knowing anything about me or my history, he was very short and dismissive with his reply when I asked him approximately how long he thought it would be before I could return to running. His short, snap reply: βOh, there will be NO RUNNING for at least four months; maybe moreβ. Thankfully, I have been around long enough and have learned from so many great people in my life about this sport to know that while there are never any guarantees about injuries and rehabilitations, he was way off in his assessment. And for that, I am also thankful because I must admit---his response added a layer to my motivation to do everything within my power (as if I needed another one) to be smart and disciplined and rehabilitate my injury properly, fully, and as quickly as possible. So there you have it, doc. Next time, be better. Ask questions, and make a true effort at understanding each and every patient that you work with; NONE OF US are the same.

Celebrating my first run on the roads after having suffered a foot injury last month and spending the last 6 weeks recovering and rehabbing it. Strength work, treadmill, bike, and rowing machine have all been and will continue to be part of the winning formula going forward. Thankful for this day, and for everything else that's in store!

20 miles on the bike today, as route navigator and company for on his long run in preparation for the Ventura Marathon. When I saw the forecasted wind factor temps below freezing π₯Ά, I kind of cringed (I know, Caribbean transplant here π), but then considered and recognized that it simply meant one more good, thick layer or so, and that I've done exactly that and been perfectly fine plenty of times before, and it did today. It was a BEAUTIFUL morning! ππ½ Mind over matter!!

Happy to have completed the Marathon while also being able to achieve a new personal best mark of 4:07:21. π₯³ Thankful for the great build/training cycle under the awesome guidance of coach , and the continued health and fitness that helped me take on and complete this challenge. A very special thanks to my brother from another mother , for accompanying me in the great majority of the miles during this cycle, all the way through race day; his company all along this journey is simply immeasurable. Now to rest and recover for a bit before starting the base building for the next one: Tokyo Marathon 2026.

Feeling a giant sense of gratitude for having reached this, the taper phase of my journey to the marathon race day. Now less than two weeks away, I'm in a great place, both physically and mentally, and feeling better prepared than ever to take on the challenge. The main focus is now directly on sleep, nutrition, and staying healthy to arrive on that start line ready to slay.

Celebrating a new milestone on my running journey--50 miles in a week for the first time ever! Thankful for great health, rock-solid support from through this entire marathon build-up, the outstanding coaching of helping me get here, and these two characters I am fortunate to have in my running family and who help me stay consistent, sharp, and having fun along the way. All the 4am wake-ups, twice-a-week strength sessions, and dedication to the principles and plan set before me are paying off in spades.

Down Week Long Run is in the books! Course designed by the one and only featured its share of rolling hills--they're good not just for working out different leg muscles throughout the distance but also for keeping things entertaining and making us stronger. Well-earned chocolate milk and Big Red treat afterward!!
