After working around multiple soft tissue injuries for several years and then going completely off the rails with my training and nutrition after the baby arrived I looked at myself in the mirror one day and knew something had to change. First things first, I went through physical therapy to resolve all the injuries I’d been harboring and as I was completing that rehab I got in touch with Krista Large - Nutritionist] to talk about how she could help me get back on track and stay that way. I committed to her 90 day program and along the way reestablished a consistent routine with my training, in addition to developing some simple healthy habits around nutrition. All of that culminated in a shift in lifestyle that is consistent and sustainable with the outcome that at almost 42 years old has me feeling the healthiest I’ve ever been. I cannot recommend her program strongly enough if you are in a place where you know something needs to change but you’re going to need some outside accountability to make it happen! Shoutout to my client .outdoors for completing his 90 day program and also finishing it off with his first half marathon.
I encouraged Joel to take action on one of his bucket list items which was running!
Joel started working with me at 207 pounds and weighted in last week at 189 (18 pounds) at 19.7% body fat.
Joel also radically changed his eating and kicked a late night sugar habit that haunted him for years.
Please give it up for Joel! Joel, I am so proud of you!

88,420 calories & 857 miles in 60 days!!!😳 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That is just a few of the amazing data points recorded by GoWild member Joel Smith during the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers’ annual Hike to Hunt challenge.
Joel Smith, a Texan hunter and angler, won the competition’s mileage challenge and used his GoWild app for to record rich data from his journey.
Joel was also able to track a considerable amount of data:
•Joel’s average hike was more than 3 hours across 75 total hikes tracked on GoWild.
•He burned 88,420 calories, meaning he earned 589🍺. (Pro tip: We don’t recommend drinking all of those at once, Joel.🍻)
•The total ascent was 3,290 feet. Not too shabby for Texas!
•Speaking of Texas, Joel often hiked in excess of 102º Fahrenheit.🥵 Remember, Joel: Those beers won’t keep you hydrated!
•Joel’s average heart rate was 109 beats per minute, and he maxed out at 182 beats per minute on a few hikes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Team GoWild extends it’s congratulations to Joel. “It’s been fun to watch this story evolve over the last few months,” GoWild Cofounder, CEO, Brad Luttrell added. "I can't wait to see what other stories unfold this year and beyond for Joel.". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While Joel used GoWild’s Garmin integration, any GoWild community member can track a multitude of activities with GoWild’s free iPhone and Android apps. Tracking hunting, fishing, hiking, scouting, archery and more is easy on GoWild. GoWild is not affiliated with BHA.
