Houston's brutal summer conditions create the perfect storm for digestive disaster. Understanding these heat-gut connections protects you from serious training setbacks.
Key Insights for Houston Summer Runners:
• Your gut starts failing at 102°F core temperature – blood diverts away from intestines, breaking down protective barriers and allowing harmful bacteria to enter your bloodstream
• Houston's 75% humidity sabotages your cooling system – sweat can't evaporate effectively, forcing your body to work harder and increasing gut distress risk compared to dry climates
• Peak danger hours span 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – schedule runs between 4:30-7:00 a.m. or 7:00-8:30 p.m.
