KO KINGZ 👑 JOE CALZAGHE 🇬🇧
46W-32KO
Born in Hammersmith, London and raised in Newbridge Wales, Calzaghe’s boxing trajectory was uniquely linked to his father and trainer Enzo Calzaghe.
Joe turned professional in 1993 following an outstanding amateur career. His early professional career was marked by explosive single shot power earning the fast knockouts across the UK domestic scene.
Calzaghe’s world level arrival came against legendary former two division champion Chris Eubank for the vacant WBO Super Middleweight title. In a brutal 12 round war, Joe outworked Eubank to win a clear UD, securing his first world title at 25. He earned some career defining masterpiece wind against Jeff Lacy in 2006 and Mikkel Kessler in 2007.
In 2008, Calzaghe moved up to light heavyweight to test himself on American soil. He was dropped in the first round from a short right hand by Bernard Hopkins, but once he adjusted, he pushed the pace to secure a split decision victory. In that same year almost same scenario against Roy Jones Jr, overcoming an early flash knockdown in round 1, Calzaghe dominated the fight securing a UD before announcing his retirement.
Whether viewed through the lens of his 21 consecutive title defenses, his undisputed championship status, or his rare retirement as an undefeated fighter, Calzaghe stands firmly as one of the greatest super middleweights in boxing history and a true icon of British sports.
