I saw a post recently about “how would you react if one of your top players was recruited by another team”.

We’ve had this happen a handful of times and my response has always been the same: “I’ll never stand between your kid and a great opportunity, so you need to do what’s best for your kid. I happen to think being here is best for your kid.” So far we haven’t lost anyone.

The reality is we as an organization and a group of coaches don’t own our players or their families. If we aren’t doing right by them, making them better every practice, and most importantly having fun while doing it, we should expect players to leave.

Another coach wrote it beautifully I think:

“Here’s the reality of youth sports:

Players will be recruited. Parents will hear promises. Kids will be tempted by shiny uniforms, bigger trophies, and talk of “better opportunities.”

But at this age, development isn’t about who can score the most touchdowns today.

It’s about learning:
✅ Discipline
✅ Accountability
✅ Teamwork
✅ Fundamentals
✅ How to handle adversity
✅ How to be a great teammate

If another program is truly the best fit for a young athlete and his family, I wish them nothing but success. No hard feelings. No burned bridges.

As coaches, we don’t own players.

Our job is to prepare them, encourage them, and help them become better athletes and better people.

I’ve never been afraid of losing a player.

What I fear is failing to create an environment where players are challenged, supported, and developed the right way.

So if a family decides to leave, we’ll shake hands, wish them luck, and keep building.

Because championships come and go.

Culture lasts.

And when your culture is strong, you don’t have to convince people to stay.

🏈 Build people. Build culture. Build leaders. The rest takes care of itself.”

Bears Spotlight: Charlotte Pham

Charlotte “Smallz” Pham is the embodiment of the saying “good things come in small packages”. Charlotte is a multisport athlete stamping her name on basketball, softball, and now flag football.

Deceptively fast, she terrorizes opposing QBs with her pass rush, often turning passing plays into sacks or interception opportunities for her teammates. She single-handedly shuts down running plays behind the line of scrimmage.

As a receiver, if it’s close, she will catch it. Her hands are as close to a sure thing as possible. From her first practice she impressed coaches and fellow players with her ability to catch any ball thrown at any velocity.

As a ball carrier, she displays elite change of direction ability as she bobs and weaves her way through defenders all the way to the end zone.

Developing grit early. Our youngest athletes working 1v2 pressure and learning to thrive in tight spaces. Quality reps = future confidence on the field.

Ari Ferguson is a multisport athlete who brings an intensity and athleticism to the team that is hard to match.

Already a star soccer player, Ari decided to give flag football a try in our Winter 2025 season and since then has become a cornerstone of the team.

She plays at a high level both on offense and defense. Any time the ball is in her hands, there’s a good chance she’s taking it to the house.

Expect to see this athlete stamping her name on this sport!

Bear Spotlight: Violet Crandall

Violet has been a part of the team from the very beginning. She was one of the 4 girls who attended our very first practice. Since that first practice, Violet has been 100% all in on Flag Football. She has played every position on the team and fully embraces whatever role her coaches ask of her.

Despite breaking her arm during a game in Fall 2025, she still came out and supported her teammates. Violet "Joy Joy" Crandall is a natural leader on and off the field, and has earned the honor of being a Team Captain.

Violet is one of the only kids on the team to have scored all the ways that points can be scored: running, receiving, AND passing!

So far she has earned two championship rings with the team... and counting!
