Looking for a cheap activity in the Charlotte area? Check out River Jam at the U.S. National Whitewater Center! Held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, these events feature live music. The Whitewater Center itself is a great place to spend a day rafting, paddling, or ziplining, but River Jam is a more relaxed experience. Some nights also have activities running during River Jam, so you can watch a rafter fall out of their boat while enjoying the music. The only cost to attending River Jam is a $12 parking fee, but an annual parking pass is offered at $40 (and pays for itself in four visits!).

Grace is a Senior at UNC Chapel Hill double majoring in Sociology and Political Science. She is also preparing for an Outward Bound 28 day adventure in July.

Embrace your wild side and race through the woods with your furriest friend! Friendly trail dogs are welcome on this 3-mile run. You and your furry friend can run with the pack or take it at your own pace.

Open Paddle on Mountain Island Lake

Make the most of the shortest Saturday of the year, December 19th, with a canoe ride and bonfire. Warm your face in the sun as you explore the lake in a canoe then warm your hands by our bonfire. Or just warm your heart by bringing the family out for a toasty marshmallow and hot cocoa. Staff will outfit you with equipment, provide local knowledge about the lake, and help you launch from Latta Waterfront. Reserve a canoe online or drop-in to see us between 10am and 4pm.
Launch times are every hour from 10am to 2pm and last for TWO hours.
All Ages - $30/canoe (includes 2 adults and 2 children)
