…LOWER HUMIDITIES FOR THE END OF THE WEEK…

We will see two more days of heat index values in the 95 to 105 degree range. A ridge of high pressure will build over the area on Wednesday and this will continue over Georgia for the rest of the week. This will bring lower humidities which will also bring lower heat index values with most areas seeing heat index values below 95 for the last half of the week.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any weather-related questions. You can contact me via email at [email protected].

Potential Hazards
Friday…Isolated afternoon thunderstorms
Saturday…Isolated afternoon thunderstorms
Sunday…Isolated afternoon thunderstorms

General Discussion
Not a bad forecast shaping up for race #2 at Dauset. An upper level area of low pressure will develop off the Georgia/Florida coast early this week and move west into the eastern Gulf. This will bring an east to northeast flow of air which will help cool our temperatures just slightly. It will also bring in Atlantic moisture for the last half of this week and into the weekend. Daytime heating and the Atlantic moisture will help produce isolated showers and thunderstorms each afternoon beginning Thursday and continuing into the weekend. At this time, the chances are less than 20% each day.

…THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER THE WEEKEND…

A storm system currently over the mid-Mississippi Valley will move into Georgia this weekend. This will spread numerous to widespread showers and thunderstorms across the Georgia Cycling area beginning Friday and continuing into the weekend with most of the storms occurring on Saturday. Total rainfall amounts will range from 1 to 2”, especially across north Georgia. A few storms could be strong to severe with the main threat being strong gusty winds.

The heat will remain with us over the next 5 days with heat index values remaining in the 95 to 104 degree range.

Forecast Discussion
9:42 AM Monday, September 7, 2026

We will have a break from the heat for the next couple days as temperatures return closer to normal thanks to a backdoor front that moved across the area yesterday. Unfortunately, the heat will return for the last half of the week with heat index values rising into the Code Yellow category (Heat Index 95 to 104). We will continue to see scattered, mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms each day.

…VERY DANGEROUS HEAT INDEX THROUGH THE WEEKEND…

Very dangerous heat index values for much of the Georgia Cycling area today through Sunday with heat index values in the 100 to 105+. There is some relief, however. A cold front will move across the state Sunday and Monday. This will bring increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms this weekend, but it will also bring much cooler temperatures on Monday. High temperatures on Monday will be 5 to 10 degrees cooler than what we have seen over the past few days.

…DANGEROUS HEAT INDEX RETURNS THIS WEEK…

It seems like summer doesn’t want to let go. Temperatures will be rising into the mid 90s across much of the Georgia Cycling area this week. Humidities will also be increasing as a system moves across the northeast Gulf and spreads moisture across the state. This will bring higher heat index values to the state along with increasing chances of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, mainly toward the end of the week.

The atmosphere has stabilized just slightly for this afternoon and therefore I have lowered the chance of showers and thunderstorms to 30%, mainly after 3 PM. There should be plenty of sunshine this morning with skies becoming partly cloudy toward the noon hour.

Skies will be mostly cloudy early this morning, but we should see some sunshine by noon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon, mainly between 3 PM and 9 PM. Sunday does not look much different with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing, mainly in the afternoon, although I can’t rule out an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the late morning hours on Sunday.

Forecast Discussion
3:20 PM Thursday, August 27, 2026

Potential Hazards
Friday…Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms
Saturday…Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms
Sunday…Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms

Changes to the Previous Forecast
Lowered the chance of thunderstorms Friday and Saturday.

General Discussion
The latest model runs are showing a little less instability on Friday and Saturday, therefore I have lowered the chance of thunderstorms a just slightly. The best timing for thunderstorms will be between 3 PM and 9 PM each day. The models are now hinting at instability returning to the area on Sunday. If this trend continues, I will need to increase the chance of thunderstorms. But for now I am keeping the chance at 30% for Sunday afternoon.
