Softball teaches you things that have nothing to do with a scoreboard.

It teaches you how to fail in front of people.
How to get back up when your name is the one everyone remembers… for better or worse.

It teaches you how to take criticism without letting it crush you.
How to separate who you are from how you performed that day.

It teaches you patience when progress feels slow.
Humility when things are going well.
Perspective when they’re not.

It teaches you how to sit on the bench with the same attitude you bring to the circle.
How to support teammates even when your heart hurts.
How to keep showing up when quitting would be easier.

Softball teaches you that confidence isn’t loud.
It’s built quietly, over years of reps, setbacks, long car rides, and uncomfortable moments.

And one day, long after the cleats are hung up,
you realize the game gave you exactly what you needed;
not just to compete,
but to handle life.

🤍 If softball has shaped your daughter beyond the field, this one’s worth sharing.

A must read!!!

I’ll say it again for the people in the back:
Your daughter doesn’t need to be the fastest, the hardest thrower, the biggest hitter, or the flashiest player on the field.

She needs to be the one who loves it enough to show up when no one’s watching.
Who does the extra reps without being told.
Who takes ownership of her mistakes instead of looking for excuses.
Who smiles when she steps on the field because this game is still her favorite place to be.

Because at the end of the day…
The ones who make it aren’t always the most talented.
They’re the ones who refuse to quit.

That’s it.
That’s the difference.

And trust me — that shows up in a lot more places than the softball field.

Here’s the hard truth ladies & gents ⬇️

• Everyone was the best at one point during high school/club, but now you’re in college. Everyone is better than you now - this should only push you to work harder to get better. Drop the ego!

• Time management is a skill you HAVE to master. Balancing classes, practices, games, travel, and social life is hard. Use a planner, calendar app, or whatever works - just don’t try to “remember” your assignments. (I use a planner to write homework due dates in, the calendar app for appointments & important dates AND the iphone reminders app for other tasks.)

• You will gain weight and that’s OKAY! Chill!! It’s not the “freshman 15,” it’s lifting four times a week, practicing everyday, and eating like an athlete. Yes, your body will change. No, it’s not a bad thing. Don’t obsess over it!!!

• You can’t post whatever you want anymore. You’re an athlete and a brand. What you post, say, or even repost/like reflects not only on YOU, but your program, your teammates and your coaches. Be smart!

• Your mental health will be TESTED. You’re going to feel overwhelmed, tired and stressed and maybe even want to quit at times. Don’t make permanent decisions based off of your temporary emotions. Just get some sleep and go kill it at practice the next day! Also, get yourself a support system - whatever that looks like for you! 💞 (For me, I had my roommates & we would get out of the house at least once a week and do something fun: Starbucks study date, a walk, shopping, or a lake day on the weekends!)

Okayyy sorry all the harsh things, but it’s truly so rewarding!! You’re going to be tested for sure, but the good things about being a college athlete outweigh the bad things by a mile!!! 💓
