Steve Oleksy was born in Chesterfield, Michigan. He attended L’Anse Creuse High School, where he was a four-year letter winner, graduating in 2004.  Oleksy played junior hockey with the Traverse City North Stars before going on to play three seasons for the Lake Superior State Lakers, NCAA Division 1.  Oleksy professional career started in the ECHL with the Las Vegas Wranglers in 2009.  Following his time with Las Vegas, Oleksy signed with the Idaho Steelheads for three seasons before moving to the Hershey Bears.

Steve signed his first NHL contract in 2013 with the Washington Capitals and stayed with the organization for two seasons.   Prior to the start of the 2015-16 season, Oleksy signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins and on June 12th, 2016 he won the Stanley Cup as part of Penguins historic season.  Steve continued his playing career with the Penguins, Maple Leafs and the Anaheim Ducks, a career that spanned 17 seasons.  

Now Steve is excited to lead the Florida Surge into our inaugural season and share tireless work ethic with our players and staff, ensuring success and pushing everyone to the next level.
