After nearly ten months, Season 3 is a go! Check it out!

Playthough Round of Carter Front Nine It's been a while with tournaments and schedules and weather...but we're finally back for Season 3 of Team Widdium!Our first playthrough round is from Greg C...

Today I played in the First Annual Blake Baker Memorial Tournament at Fairview Park just outside Cullman, hosted by my great friend (and rival) Tyler Stephens. Despite the cold and wind, I was on fire the first round as I shot -11 and had a three-shot lead. The second round I went -7 and took the win in MA1, but I also finished one shot better than the MPO winner, the “Distance Monster” himself, Jared Neal! My Zone and my Force were valuable as always! It was bittersweet, though, as the even was to help Blake’s daughter after his death a few months ago in a car crash. Blake was a good friend of both of us at Team Widdium, and I got to share a few words about him after I accepted my trophy. Thanks to Tyler for putting it on, and also for the great trophies he got for the winners!

And in the raffle afterwards, we had donated several items including two of my 2021 NADGT National Champion discs…and I won one of them back!

It's been a little while since we've posted anything new, but we're back now with the debut of Season 2 of Team Widdium! New courses! New content! New friends!

We start the season with a walkthrough of Fairview Disc Golf Course near Cullman, AL. We're playing along with our friends Jon and Christy Acton (who have been wanting to do one of these with us for a while!) and John Taymon. This is a practice round we played in preparation for the Blake Baker Memorial Tournament being held here on November 19, 2022, with proceeds to benefit Blake's wife and daughter. You may remember Blake from our walkthrough videos we did this spring at Heritage Park in Cullman; sadly, he passed away in a car crash on August 19. We include a tribute to him both before and after our round in this video and the front nine one, so please continue watching after hole 9 on the front nine video and the conclusion of the round on the back nine one.

One year ago, I was on my way to Austin to play in MA2 in NADGT Nationals. I didn’t know what to expect; it was easily the biggest event I’d been in up to that point. I’d finished tied for 57th at Magic City Mega Bowl just four months before and had only been playing for about a year and a half, so I had no expectations heading in. David told me just to relax and have fun, and if I placed in the top 10% or top 50 then I would have a ton to be proud of, and if I finished toward the bottom then to be happy with the experience and to learn and grow from it. But no matter what, be proud of what I had accomplished.

At the end of the week, I was a national champion.

Tomorrow I head back out to Austin, the differences being I’m driving instead of flying, my dad is going with me (my real one, not my disc golf dad Jon Acton or my Team Widdium partner David that has often been mistaken for my dad…though my dad’s name is David, too) instead of me going alone, I’m listed as being from Jasper and not Double Springs (but always proud of where I grew up!) and I’m playing MPO this time. Once again, I don’t have any expectations. I’ve come so close to winning a few A-Tier events the last several months—third at Jonesboro Open, second at Magic City Mega Bowl—and had some great showings elsewhere including making the cut at Am Worlds. I know I can compete, I know these courses, and I know that I have the support of so many people. But once again, I’m just going to relax, play to the best of ability, and have fun. If I place high, then great; if not, then I’m going to enjoy spending time with my dad, learn from the experience, meet some old friends I’ve made the last couple years, and make some new ones. And no matter what, I’m coming home next week proud.

No excuses.

I went to Top Golf tonight for a company outing and took William along with me as my “guest golf expert.” As you can tell, I’ve never swung a golf club in my life…and William forgot his Dri-Flight Golf Sack! Will was pretty shy to begin with as he often is around new people (especially a lot at one time) but he soon relaxed and had a great time, and my coworkers loved having him there!
